Wasn't it illness related for Parekh last game? Maybe he's not yet back to 100%. I definitely don't have all the details so it comes down to speculation.

As things stand Francis mentioned during intermission that Parekh will likely stay with the Flames, and he doesn't think he will be sent down. Which means that his pre-game tweet was just meant to generate outrage/engagement.

As for Zary, and Coronato being healthy scratched, it is concerning. I would be more inclined to agree with you guys if it becomes a regular occurrence.

Right now the Flames look like they're looking to sell and free up spots for the young guys. The best way to do that is by pumping up the vets value, and not by scratching them outright.

I'll add that this idea that there are these bad teams that are exciting and young is also largely a myth for most of a re-build. Again, the Sharks are now just getting to the point where they are like that. They have great talent, can score, but can't defend. But their games are pretty entertaining. That only really started this season.

For the most part bad teams are just bad and not fun to watch.

But this is the medicine we need to take to get to the other side of it.

The ideal season long-term is
- A top pick
- the trading of some additional veterans
- the development of players throughout the system

Those are the outcomes I care about this season.

It hasn't been clear, just that he isn't 100% or is 'banged up'.
I don't think it's been a healthy scratch unless someone heard something different.

Nobody on this team is really draping themselves or their house in Glory.
I agree that vets aren’t great. But like I said youngsters aren’t either. It’s the whole team. When you get a whole team playing poorly it’s got to be on the coach.

Perhaps.
But even then wouldn't swapping out the coach, to get some sort of short-term bump this year in the standings, ultimately be a bad thing?

Even if one believes Huska is a bad coach, that leads to the high pick everyone is yearning for.

Yep, if we can hit all three of those points I think this will have been just about the perfect season - and it will have been a season this team really needed.

Yeah I laughed seeing posts about benching Andersson or Weegar from the same people saying we need to sell all vets.

Agreed. Someone get that memo across to Conroy and Huska.

Andersson and Weegar are playing like they want to be benched

So it’s pointless

For the most part, I just really didn’t like Francis saying Zayne has struggled - he straight up has not. He’d also been building momentum before missing the last game (which may have been illness/physical ailment), whereas today it’s the coaches decision.

Agree with most of your post but not this part.
Can you elaborate on what values, standards and principles they’re learning in the press box or playing bottom roster minutes/no power play time.

Who are they learning these from? The veterans?

To play devils advocate, we’ve got our most offensively gifted prospects in ages playing a system that inherently takes away their offensive flair.
They get minimal minutes per night in most cases
Very rarely used on PP1
Sat for various reasons and forced to watch veterans play equally poorly or worse in some cases with any recourse on them:

Wolf looks like he’s in shellshock
Coronato looks absolute scared to get creative
Parekh fumbled from the get go/confidence waining daily
Huberdeau never the same after 1 year in Calgary

How can you be sitting in the popcorn box tonight watching this veteran laden team and say to yourself “at least I’m learning something watching this team struggle to even handle the puck.

I’d say the opposite, I don’t think there’s anything to learn when the veterans are given insanely long leashes and making more mistakes out there and never sitting or getting reduced minutes.

I’m all for sitting and watching after you cost the team a game or give up too much and reset for next time, but you have to hold ALL players accountable the same way, or it simply divides the room and turns into this #### show we’re watching.

I disagree that the Sharks just got exciting this year. Celebrini was pretty fun to watch play last season.

On the other hand, the Ducks just got exciting this year.

I want to see Parekh play as much as possible. However, for perspective, the Flames have 10 players in college who will play a maximum of ~40 games. No one thinks there development is screwed playing that number.

If Parekh gets 40-50 NHL games plus another ~8 for Team Canada, and possibly a couple weeks conditioning stint in the AHL (~5 games), that will be a good season of games played

I’d be embarrassed to showcase this crap on national tv.

This team is cooked.
No confidence
No swagger
No youth left in the lineup
The draw to watch these guys this year fades every time they scratch a young guy and then force us to watch veterans who can’t score put in all the offensive zone starts.

Wolf looks absolutely shattered playing in front of this team to boot.

I’m not even made we’re losing, just wish we gave more opportunities to the young offensive guys to play their game the way we drafted them to play.

It’s a shame Zayne can’t play AHL, we need to bribe whomever necessary to make it happen.
I’m almost to the point where I don’t want him near Huska.
I see 3 vets with any give a damn to their game. Backlund, Coleman and Weegar.

Watching the PP (if you can call it that) it just screams to me to play Parekh and worry about the contract in a couple years. He is the only one capable of getting the puck in the zone. Coronato just hits the blue line, turns back to his own end, turns the puck over and the other players are all caught. Same move every time, hard to watch.

The Sharks were dead last in the NHL last year for goals for.
Celebrini was exciting for sure. That's what bringing a guy like that does. I think he's better than Bedard, so we are talking about the best prospect to come along in about 10 years.

But game to game last year the Sharks were pretty awful to watch.

And agreed the Ducks have also now tipped where they are exciting. But again, they are further along where they now have that crop of young guys now forming the new core, with the Vets supplementing the core (e.g. Kreider).

A guy like Celebrini is exciting because he represents hope and the future.

But yeah the slog of an 82 game season where you score 2.5 goals per game is still not a ton of fun.
