As I talk to people I will analyze how I say it and how I should have said it better. I talk all day long to people on the phone trying to get more oil and gas and motivate people and mentor young guys.

I will talk to people and make a joke and then within seconds imagine a scenario where I am an aspiring stand up comic trying to build my set and break down what I just said.

If anyone I know is struggling, I lose my mind., my buddy's wife suddenly went to rehab and they told him he was the problem and has left him and he is a total mess. Not my problem but that does not stop me scouring my brain all the time to help him out. Buyng him gift cards so he doesn't have to cook fr the two kids she has left him with.

All day long starting at 3:30 looking at my new wells making 1500 boed baby.

I am exhausted by the end of the day and a POS to my own family because I am like Bob Geldof on the wall sitting on the couch not wanting any stimulous.....because I have to earn.

Thats why this place is a bit of a respite. I can scream at the skies and barf out dumb crap and maybe get some laughs. Getting laughs is my favorite thing in the world.

Rumination is a serious thing. I had it really bad years ago and still struggle with it.

Sometimes I wish I could just get out of my own head for a while.

One trick I try to do is thank my brain for the thought but acknowledge that I don’t need that information. Just a daily thing I do that I heard somewhere. Obviously not a replacement for situations that require medication, but it’s providing me some relief of ruminating about absurd or very low possibility thoughts.

You can also be downright rude to those thoughts if you want. If the thought of running your car off a bridge or that the soreness you’re suddenly feeling is stage 4 cancer or the thing you just said is going to get you fired or whatever else pops into your head I find “that’s dumb, shut the #### up” works well.

I’m a big internal dis-creditor of unhelpful internal thoughts and I like to really put them in their place.

For sure. I guess the angle is also part of me trying to be more positive and less miserable about absolutely everything. But yeah, same concept.

Agreed guys. It’s a weird thing rumination, because repetitive thoughts, even of a minor issue, can make that small issue into a really big issue. And often we ruminate about things that really only bother us as individuals , no one else. Something silly like a mark on your newly painted walls that no one else notices to something really serious like a bad break up.

Talking to a therapist can help sort out reality from imagination too, once your deep into this pattern. Even just saying it out loud to someone you can start to make better sense of it.

Rumination is at about 3:30 am every single day and none of those things help. Turning the frown upside down does nothing.
