Toffoli trade improved the Flames at the time...for a first place team that was a good deal

Yup. And "posters" doesn't include everyone's perspective. I just find it funny that some are jumping on an article like this when the outlet and reporter are providing some interesting (although quite obvious) Calgary content.

He can write whatever he wants but its pretty obvious he hasn't been paying attention like most fans and media.

The trade that brought Elias and Noah here is the only trade I can think of that substantively improved the Flames.
Everything else has involved futures and reclamation projects.
What am I forgetting?

I mean the Lindholm trade with Vancouver is an obvious win.

The real thing here is not that they lose hockey trades either...it's that they don't get made.
Tkachuk for Huberdeau, Weegar
Lucic for Neal
Hanifin+Lindholm for Hamilton, Ferland, Fox
Those are really the only hockey trades that happened.

You’re probably right, but we don’t know. They have the optics of a team who could be willing to overpay for help, though they may quietly be acknowledging their glory has faded, and they plan to get ahead of the thing before a collapse forces a build. Business being what it is they probably chase present success, but there’s already some writing on the wall in Tampa.
Given these leaks I doubt there is currently an appetite to chase results this season in Calgary, but there may be internal voices who see things differently. Likely not, but….

Only if you include hope, we have Farabee, Frost, and Gridin with the club to show for it. Lindholm is outscoring them combined.
Sure Bryz may turn out but until then it's still hope.

Yup. So odd that is was broadly understood to be next summer.
But it opens up a bunch of options particularly if the Flames have a god-awful season like they are.

I just can't see them trading Kadri unless he asks out, which very well might happen.
With how much Backlund is slowing down and Frost not being able to take a step. I really have a hard time picturing the organization willfully moving on from him.

I think he may be as big a trading chip at the deadline as Anderson.

The Flames were in a playoff spot or there abouts with a mountain of cap space didn't add last deadline they aren't going to do something crazy now.
The players are the players...they either dig out or they don't. Other decisions were always deadline-ish decisions anyway.

Kadri's trade clause is very significant. We were all operating under the impression that it didn't change until next off-season! I certainly was anyway!
Now when does he submit? Did he have to submit his list on July 1st, the start of the season, or does he have to submit if Conroy requests it?

If they are able to trade him to half the league he doesn't have much protection at all...ironically it was Kadri who didn't waive to go to the Flames because he wanted to stay in TO and then the traded him the next day without even asking.

In fairness they did add last year, albeit at a low cost.
Historically, the team has done what they can to avoid landing in the bottom of the pack, so as they now stand at the precipice of a dark hole there may folks who can’t bring themselves to plunge into that darkness. I agree with you that Conroy’s record suggests he’ll take the leap, but the Flames as an organization have not shown themselves to be willing to travel that path.
While I can’t say I’m a card carrying member of the tank division, I can understand why some on here cheer losses as they may be conditioned to think only the impossibility of a playoff berth can keep management from misreading the room.

The new understanding of the modified NTC date is oddly convenient... thanks Treliving .
Hopefully we can trade Kadri for a haul and make up for Monahan trade.

not at the deadline...point remains they didn't do something crazy then they aren't going to do it now. I'm sure they would add a young player in a sure win of a deal but that isn't the "danger zone"

That’s how some people were describing the Frost/Farabee deal. If anything their being fed healthy minutes with little production has greatly contributed to the present situation. I think like you, absent the air of certainty.

I don't think this is public information. So all of the above could be true. Since it's a Treliving contract, I'm guessing that the list will be submitted whenever the team requests it.
I just wanted to add a small caveat in the new CBA: the no trade lists must also be submitted (as soon as possible) to the NHL's central registry. In order to avoid situations like what happened with Dadonov and Ottawa.
