This will significantly reduce many teachers’ workload, but do we think this is what Danielle wants? To contrast what private schools are offering versus public and continue their agenda of privatizing education?

I don't think this is a good election issue for her.

A few of my wive's colleagues have gone to teach at the Canadian (International?) school in Abu Dhabi. Loving it over there.

Buses of teachers heading up to Edmonton to protest outside of the legislature.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the UCP dust off their earplugs today.

So... should I volunteer for a school casino night? My kids' elementary is at risk of losing their position on the night if they don't get more volunteers, but will they even be using any of that money this year? It's starting to feel like this entire school season is going to be a write off, or work to rule. In either case, no extras requiring funding.

I am guessing that this funding will be required, no matter what. The casino slots only come up every 18-24 months, so I would look at the bigger picture.

Totally up to you but the strike won't affect this funding. This goes to your school via the parent council. As an ex admin in Calgary I can tell you this money is essential to many aspects of the school running. People here are right they only come up on a set rotation and you do not want to miss yours. Doing the casino has more to do with your school running events and activities over the next year and a half than the current strike.

Back-to-work legislation to end Alberta teachers’ strike coming Monday, says premier
Alberta's New Democrats condemn UCP government attack on teachers and studentsQuote:

		| The Alberta government will table back-to-work legislation on Monday that seeks to end the provincewide teachers’ strike, Premier Danielle Smith said Thursday morning.
The government served formal notice Thursday that it would be introducing Bill 2, known as the Back to School Act, announcing it via an order paper published on the Alberta Legislature’s website.

“The precondition has to be getting kids back to school and so far, [the teachers’ union has] been unwilling to do that,” Smith said during a news conference.

“It’s not to say that they won’t have an agreement with us in the next 72 hours. But we feel that it’s not going to move in that direction.

“They came back with an offer that moves even further apart rather than closer together. So we would like to see a realistic approach that allows us to address the issues of classroom complexity, but we have to get kids back in the classroom.”

		| Naheed Nenshi, Leader, Alberta’s New Democrats, condemns UCP government attack on teachers and students:
“Today, we learned the UCP government is not only forcing teachers back to school without addressing any of their concerns, but it's also changing the rules to ram through this legislation even more quickly.

“This is the biggest abuse of democratic rights in Alberta’s history.

“This is an attack on teachers, on public education, on all workers and their unions, and on democracy itself. We unequivocally condemn it.

The UCP are such reprehensible scumbags. F*** these arseholes.
I’m hearing from some friends in Calgary that high school kids are already planning student walk-outs if their teachers are forced back to work with no changes. If true, good on ‘em for supporting their teachers and standing up to this nonsense.

People need to keep protesting this s*** as much as possible.

You 100% should. I am doing it for our school, as they get like 80K or something for it. It funds field trips, new computers etc.

If you think the teacher's strike is impactful, imagine if they all go on strike. Hospitals, Universities, even the government itself would shut down.
