I just got back from a 2 week trip to England and Denmark.

The first leg was a buddy's 40th birthday. He is a Chelsea fan and wanted to see them. So a group of us went to London to catch a game.

I was not in charge of booking and given the fact that it was 8 people, the hospitality route was chosen. What an absolute scam.

$1,200.00 CAD for the ticket. Good seats in upper-deck and free food and booze 3 hours before and 1 hour after. Had some Chelsea "legends" there before the game for interviews.

All-in-all, good experience but that price point was criminal.

In any event, the B-day boy was the only Chelsea fan, so we all went in openly ambivalent, but cheering against Chelsea (the opening chant is "We hate Tottenham, Chelsea" so i couldn't, in good conscience, support such blasphemy - also rent free)

The game was Brighton. So a 3-1 Chelsea loss. Which was nice.

The atmosphere in that stadium was pretty bad though. Very quiet. The Away section was absolutely bumping though, so it was hard not to feel excited for the away fans.

______________

I also caught a Copenhagen FC game in Copenhagen. Got great seats, double aisle seats about 30 rows up for about $130.00 apiece. Ended in a 1-1 draw but a great game, and the fans were way wilder!

I just want to be clear...its wasn't $1200 for 8 people, that was per person?

1200 is crazy.

If you're going to see your own team and you will contribute to the atmosphere camt recommend buying away tickets enough. Tough to get for the bigger clubs but doable.. 30 pound cap on any seat and the atmosphere is so fun. Just don't do it if your a neutral or casual it's a section for loud drunk partisans

Yeah as much as I do intend on doing a Euro football trip some day, big club matches do not seem anywhere near as appealing as something smaller, even without considering the cost. Atmosphere at any of the big club matches always seems so drab, really it's only for European games do the atmospheres get good. I hope the spread was good at least for $1200.00

That should have come with a happy ending for that kind of money.

yeah, woof. Then again, I see people pay that kind of money for poor Lego sets, so what do I know.

But for an early season game against Brighton? I know its posh London pricing and all but I'd sooner watch a match in a local pub than pay that.

Yeah, but that’s for hospitality though. I’ve been to several games and never paid anywhere near that. In fact, tickets were cheaper than an NHL game, by far. Compared to tickets for NFL or Basketball, Premier League tickets are much cheaper.

And, beer was also cheaper by a significant margin.

Yes, by all accounts, me too. A couple of reasons that i obviously couldn't have; and there being 8 of us, hospitality was unfortunately the only way to guarantee 8 seats together months in advance when booking the trip.

I guess they also jacked prices after their Club World Cup win I saw the same hospitality tickets last year for at least half that.

I also looked up Tottenham tickets that night (playing the wolves) and could've gotten a similar ticket (last minute and only 2) for about $400.00 CAD.

The Copenhagen game was a better experience for sure. better tickets, better atmosphere, met some great locals.

IMO, the Canada Octagonal game in Edmonton was a better atmosphere, but that could be expected.

Outside of going to a Spurs game, i would like to hit up some lower league games outside of London.

Ange sacked already. That had to be one of the most obviously terrible hires I’ve ever seen. Completely wrong fit for that group.

Terrible hire, inevitable result. Not sure Ange gets another EPL gig anytime soon.

Given the propensity for PL teams recycling managers (Forest are probably hiring Dyche after all), he'll get another look in the future. Screams future West Ham manager.

Yeah that was never likely to go well. Whats Big Sam Allardyce up to these days?

That being said, its a shame Forest's Owner wasnt around during the Abramovich days, things could have gotten really nuts!

Great call by Morgan Gibbs White to stick around at Forest this summer instead of moving.

Watching this match and the biggest thing that sticks out to me is the Sports Illustrated advert on the sideline. Pretty random even as sideline adverts go.
