They were last time, just by the cafeteria.

I didn't know there's a difference in how the grinder works. I've just been using this exact grinder at home, work and the trailer:

Time for me to up my coffee game I guess!

I used one like that for many years, upgraded to the Baratza burr grinder a couple of years ago and it was a noticeable improvement in my coffee.

It's not like there's huge differences in flavor, but it can be noticeable. It's usually nuances in either too watery, too bitter or a weird texture due to silt or oils. Kinda like the difference between carbonated pop and flat pop where it's not purely differences in flavor, there's something else.

I bought a Shardor grinder like this for my in laws a few years ago.

I still use this Cuisinart that was sold in Costco years ago.

My in laws like the Shardor more. They think it's less messy than the Cuisinart because the Shardor grinds go into the chamber from above instead of the side like the Cuisinart.

You can also buy a hand grinder. I still quite like my Hario slim hand grinder and I take it on trips.

Bigger isn't always better. A large hand grinder is awkward to hold. I have a Hario skerton but it's kinda exhausting to grip. But I don't know how cheap with hand grinders you can go before the quality isn't good enough.
I strongly recommend spending a bit extra on a coffee grinder and not cheaping out on these inexpensive electric ones. These types of false burr grinders are inferior to those with conical or flat burrs:

There's actually a tool called a Kruve sifter that's used to determine how crappy your grinder is.

Agreed if we are talking about someone who is considered a high volume consumer of coffee and prefers something more than just the basics. Knowing what I know now, because I was going from hand mill grinders to electric, I wish I poured the cost of the Cuisinart into a higher end burr grinder.

But my response is to someone who who is going from pre-ground coffee to asking about a good grinder to grind beans they mistakenly bought. In such a scenario, I think it's a bit of a harder sell to get them to upgrade into the next tiers of grinders, even if it's only incrementally more.

I deal with people regularly in this latter category and I have to really bite my tongue. A better grinder makes no sense for them. They're the type of people trying to convince me that I'm wrong in their belief that a Lavazza Organic Tierra is superior to Kona coffee because it is organic tastes just as good and is cheaper by volume. Don't get me started on their opinion about instant drip coffee. Apparently to them, it's as good as Monogram...
