Who the heck is Valentin Vacherot? I didn't know anything about him prior to the Shanghai tourney, but he just eliminated Griekspoor in three sets and is into his first ATP quarter-final. To do this at a Masters 1000 is quite extraordinary. He takes on Holger Rune next.
It's about money, Sinner and Alcaraz withdrawing or else no one would care.
There were more withdrawals in Cincinnati men and women but nobody cared because Sinner and Alcaraz made the final.
The issue is the number of required tournaments, not the heat.
In the old days, they didn't even play at night.
Here's an afternoon final, 100 degrees F

I think 30 degrees + 90% humidity is what's murdering everyone in China this week
Except the guys who haven't played that much. Djokovic is 38 and still alive. FAA still has gas in the tank.
Sinner, Alcaraz, playing in every slam final and multiple 1000 finals are just out of gas. Maybe like golf, they shouldn't play after September. Or just Shanghai, why are they playing Beijing and Tokyo? For money, appearance fees. and then the special tournament in Saudi? These guys are chasing dollars and paying for it.
Scheffler's not playing again until an invitational in the Bahamas in December. He's going to skip the next 5 to 6 PGA tour events.

The man from Monaco continues his amazing run taking out Holger Rune in three sets. Looks like Novak might be the only guy to stop Valentin Vacherot this tourney.

Bah, Felix loses to Rinderknech 6-3 6-4. After playing such a great match versus Musetti, he just didn't seem to have it last night. Oh well, on to the next tourney.

Opportunity missed as Rinderknech is a player he should beat as he had a solid opportunity to get into the SF. Consistency still lacking in his game.

Yeah as well as an opportunity to get closer to Musetti in the race to Turin. He's going to have to go on quite the tear here to make it into the top 8 (likely win a 500 or perhaps a deep run at the Paris Masters).
How crazy is it that Gael Monfils lost all 20 times he faced Novak yet Valentin Vacherot gets the win over Djokovic in their very first meeting? Also, Rinderknech did defeat Meddy in three sets so it will be a battle of cousins in Shanghai.
