I am not saying they are not good prospects but none are sure thing
We have as good or better prospects on defense over the year that never become anything. Defense is hard in the NHL.

It's early and we will see, but the PGT after the Oilers game had a few posters call out the posters who think this team could be bottom 5. From what I saw, the Oilers gave us that game. At time we played well, and we played well once we got the momentum, but it was not a good game for the Flames. Not sure how anyone after that game could be very confident in this group.

Pettersson bouncing back is key to their success. Hughes is a franchise player, Demko/Lankinen is one of the top tandems in the league. If Pettersson can be the 100pt center they paid him to be the Canucks will be in the battle with Vegas/Edmonton at the top of the division.
The Flames just do not have the fire power or depth on the back end to be a serious team in my opinion. I also think the org is doing the right thing focusing on the youth and not spending cap and assets to try and win now.
It really all comes down to the start. I think if the Flames play well in the first 15 they will be in the race all year (barring injury) but I have a feeling this team might be out early and names like Coleman and Kadri will pop up along Andersson in the rumor mill.

Other than the open net goal, all of the Canucks' goals were blocker side -- either mid-body under the blocker or Boeser's top corner blocker side snipe. (Chytil's shot that hit Bahl was also shot towards the same side)
Top corner snipes are potentially problematic for him (Mangiapane went top glove side), although he's been able to handle all but the best shots, but I don't recall a pattern on those blocker side shots. That might be partly a result of the back-to-back that he just wasn't as sharp, or it could be a bit of an area he needs to work on.
I'm curious to see if he'll see a lot more shots there in his next few starts.

I do not understand the NHL scheduling process.
It’s beginning of the season (first 3 days) and the Flames draw back to back games on the road. I realize that the league attempts to make the number of back to back games fairly equitable for every team, but I don’t understand why they start the season with these two games?
It may not be the direct cause of the loss last night, but it is certainly a factor, especially with the OT, long shootout, and travel.

I didn't agree with starting Wolf in back to backs this early in the season. Just a wasted start as the team was not as sharp and the outcome wouldn't have been any different had they started Cooley. The Canucks weren't particularly great but had more legs as this one was kind of a snoozer save for the suspect officiating.
I would love to see a detailed explanation of the two reversed 5 minute majors and how they viewed both plays very similarly when one was clearly a 5 minute boarding penalty while the other you really had to look hard for excuses to even apply a 2 minute penalty.

Flames just couldn't finish. Lost count of how many wide open nets they missed.

Well sure but that's the case with any re-build. But they've got a lot of strong dmen coming through the pipeline. Will some of them need to hit? Of course. That's always the case. But they've got guys that align to key roles if they do. Within the forward group they don't.

Yeah if they hit the open net a couple of times it's a different game. Hopefully just fatigue and rust given the situation.

Can you outline a plan for a re-build that is a "sure thing".
Curious what that looks like.

Just so stupid to play wolf 3 times in 4 nights.

It's a testament to what our coaching staff thinks of our backup goaltending, I think. We need to get a better backup over here. I don't think Cooley is the solution, and still iffy on Prosvetov.

The best thing for the club would be to pick high this year.
I will always cheer for a win against the oilers, so damn good of the boys to pull a rabbit out of the hat on game 1. But I, pretty reasonably just looking at the lineup, don't really expect them to pull out a lot of wins this season. Hanley is a regular member of our top 4. We have maybe 1 first line player, probably a strong second line player on a contender. Our coach isn't even playing our star rookie dman.
It's going to be ok. Just relax and let it happen this year.

He's talking pipeline.
The Flames system leans strongly to defensemen at this point.

The post was on drafting and adding offensive talent up front through the draft.
So pointing out that the team's pipeline strength is moot because they won't all make it is completely missing the point.
You want a balanced pipeline and getting some elite forward help would do just that.

This is 100% the approach I'm taking and a great way to put it.
I can't bother to be stressed about what happens this year at all including because we have our own pick. Last year it sucked because of that element.

There is no certainty of Hunter B becoming a TJ Brodie, who generally had a very long and successful career.
And Weegar won’t be Weggar for 6-7 years.
