They just lost a contract in Solovyov, they're only at 41, doubt it's an issue.

The Flames were light in the mid 20s demographic. Same thing at C and goal scoring. It was a 2 round pick to take a swing on filling both on players having a single down year and were in the coachs dog house. The transaction made sense. But spending significant assets for Robertson doesn't.

I wonder what the plan will be if the following players look really good on the wings to start the season:

Gridin
Posposil
Klapka
Zary

And the following players don’t look good:

Sharangovich
Coleman
Farabee

Why I choose those players is because the first list is young players that I think most people hope/think will take big steps/bounce back while the second list is players on contracts that are likely slightly over-paid that are also older (only slightly older in the case of Sharangovich and Farabee).

Would this scenario make it so Conroy looks to trade players from the second list early in the season even if it means a lower return? For example, I think Coleman with 50% retention would return something like a 2nd round pick + 4th round pick around the trade deadline but, right now, it’s probably more like a 3rd round pick. Does Conroy make that trade to make room for young players on the roster or does he wait it out while allowing young players to sit/get sent down to the wranglers until the value of some of the vets increases? The decision could need to be made once Huberdeau and Posposil are back. I’d love it if all these players do well but I think this kind of decision could need to be made sooner rather than later.

If players like Gridin and Klapka struggle and don’t look ready to be NHL regulars, the decision would be easy… send Gridin to the wranglers and have Klapka come in-and-out of the lineup as a 4th line player.

Interesting to see the Bischel didn't make the Stars opening roster.
Maybe that means he is more available than we thought #wishfulthinking

Sounds like it was a procedural move

Bichsel was loaned to AHL Texas on Monday.
While Bichsel will briefly join the minor-league club ahead of the regular season, he was sent down as a cap-saving move and is slated to be on Dallas' Opening Night roster, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Trade suggestion: Don't shoot me!

Edmonton now has 3 goalies.

What if we were to trade Cooley to Edmonton and they give us Pickard and a pick.
We would get a better backup and Edmonton could waive Cooley to send him to the minors.

Yes, it helps Edmonton but we would get a better backup.

Thoughts?

Can't imagine doing something like that to such a nice person. Re-watch any interview with Cooley and tell me you'd sent that poor guy and his family to Edmonton.

This from Friedman on offer sheets this past summer:

11. Newly-signed Evan Bouchard on Carolina’s offer-sheet threat that got his four-year, $42M extension done before July 1: “I didn’t know a lot about it. I’m glad it worked out (here).” It’s believed the Hurricanes put together a one-year deal at a number higher than McDavid just signed for, then figure out an extension. They turned their attention to K’Andre Miller, and worked out a trade with the Rangers.
Quote:
27. A few sources are adamant there was one team considering re-acquiring a draft pick it had traded to offer sheet Mason McTavish, right before the Ducks got him signed. Not Carolina, the obvious suspect.

Also Friedman on the Flames in thought 25

I’m concerned about the 20-25 games Dustin Wolf won’t play in Calgary. I was surprised the Flames didn’t claim any of the available goalies on waivers Monday.

Does anyone know why Solovyov is designated as a non-roster player in Colorado(it isn't injury related)? Maybe it's just until he gets his work visa in the US or something.

Another poster mentioned getting his work visa sorted out.

So why exactly is Edmonton doing this? They currently have 2 goalies not 3. Ingram is in the AHL and hasn’t been in a camp or game yet. They aren’t recalling him.

He is older, sucks really bad and makes more money.

There is no reason for the flames to pick him up

Nothing close that I’ve heard but it makes you wonder if there’s a swap including him with Anderson and other pieces
LOL. this would be the Stars "Yes it is 1 for 1" trade meme if this goes through hahahaha

Would be a bit weird seeing as the Ducks just signed Husso to a 2 year, $2.2M AAV deal in June…?
