Isn’t he like 100 years old now? So this season plus 3? 104 at the end?
IR and retirement will be the most abused documentation in stinkville.

When he plays. Coming off a major injury and getting older

So they Ended up spending all their savings from the Mcdiscount on Wallman and Ekholm.

This one isn't bad at all. He's getting old but 4M is not going to hurt them.

Even if his play drops off they can put him in the 3rd pairing. Sometimes the end comes fast for players over 35 though. The Oilers sure have a lot of older players locked up. They will be in shambles when McDavid leaves in a few years.

TBF, not a bad signing at all. He'll be old AF during this contract, but $4M is nothing in today's salary cap, and if he plays to his potential they have a good player at a decent price.

Put me on record as guaranteeing he will not play out this contract and will finish his career on LTIR. There's no way he's making it to 39.

Good AAV. Thought he would get more years if it was only 4M per. He might be just broken at this point and that's why.

This is another example of why McDavid taking less isn't helping the team if they fill the roster with the same players.
I don't mind this contract, he can slide into a lessor role making less money and that depth could be great for them. But, at some point I think they need to add and add more than just a goalie.
I don't see huge growth in the next 3 years for any players other than Podkolzin, Savioe and Howard. But they have tons of players who could decline.
They will still be a threat, but at some point, McDavid and Draisaitl won't be able to carry the team like they have been and need real help. More than just role players.

At $4 million that seems decent for them, risk is more on the injury front. But that is 3rd pairing money.

Yeah it actually saves then two million a season from his current deal.

McDavid: I'll sign short term but I need to see youth and where we are going in the future to remain competitive.
Oilers: excellent, Connor we just extended a 29 year old (turning 30 this season) for 7 yrs and a broken down 35 year old for 3. All under 40, our work here is done!

4M seems hefty for 3rd line money. You can get away with maybe one player making that, but if you 3rd pairing is making 8M I think your salary structure will be out of whack.
