https://theijf.org/alberta-border-pa...one-data-shows
Alberta launched its own border patrol last year to help stop the flow of illegal drugs and migrants across what Premier Danielle Smith called the “leaky” U.S. border. But the Interdiction Patrol Team (IPT) has so far made only a handful of arrests for those offences, according to data released through an access to information request.
From the time the IPT began operations in January until Aug. 8, the unit had made two arrests for illegal border crossing and five arrests for trafficking in a controlled substance, data from the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services (PSES) show.
Of these seven arrests, four occurred within the two-kilometre border zone.
Just performative bull#### that costs money and basically does nothing, the ucp sweet spot.

People complain about how much time teachers get off, why don't more people complain about MLAs when the legislature hasn't sat all summer and isn't getting back to work until October 27.

Easy there, I don't think we want to encourage this gang of dung beetles to work any more than they already do. Less is better.

I don't know... if they were sitting in legislature more often then maybe they wouldn't have time to cook up so many horrible ideas to grift our money away.

If you signed up for the COVID/Flu shot, check your eligibility because you might be able to book your shot now and get it for free if you have any of the eligible underlying medical conditions. It's a pretty extensive list, so you might qualify even if you didn't think you would.

I *do* qualify and the stupid booking system claims otherwise.
EDIT: They've done away with the old booking portal and are now doing it through the Alberta MyHealth site, which worked just now.

I went on Friday. They ask if you have read the conditions, and if you qualify. That was it. Now they may have more info to verify, but it sure felt like you could just say yes and get it free.
And yes, the booking is confusing.

Got my shots Tuesday. You know how they ask you to stick around for 15 minutes, 30 if you’ve ever had anaphylaxis?
Naturally, I ignored that and went straight to Starbucks. While in line, the floor of my mouth next to my tongue started swelling up. Nothing major, and I just went on my way, but it was my first reaction to a flu or COVID shot.
Probably that No Name brand Moderna garbage, distilled from monkey tears as they carve out their own brains with little spoons. I’ve always been Pfizer all the way. Until now, my bloodline was pure.

Well. At least we know who Patient 0 is for COVID 2.0.

Yeah, it was the same for me. The nurse asked if I qualified and when I said yes, she didn't ask any follow-up questions. I'm sure the nurses don't care about enforcing any arbitrary rules and would rather just see as many people as possible get the shots.
Who knows if AHS will have some way to track it and send a bill to anyone who wasn't really eligible.

And if that doesn’t work, you could get free shots in BC.

I don't get why they're so hell bent on the 12% number... I mean they're willing to put extra money into the grids and grades... a dollar is a dollar, what difference does it make whether it comes out of the left pocket or the right pocket? I think the pay part can get sorted out reasonably amicably it's the other stuff that I think will be harder.
We need more teachers and more EA's above attrition replacement. Smith and Horner going on about how they had 3000 in their offer is disingenuous... it sounds like a big number but if you consider how many schools there are it's like 1 or 2 per school. Class size cap and contractual obligation to build new schools faster please.
