Waiver Wire Oct 5. Super Waiver Sunday

Today is the last day for teams to put players on waivers for tomorrow's season opening roster deadline.
One interesting player to watch out for is G Michael Dipietro if the Bruins do waive him. He had 0.927 sv% and 2.05 GAA in the AHL last season and RG.org reports the Flames have interest in him in the past. Question is if the Bruins will hold on to 3 goalies to start the season to try and trade him.

		| “I’ve heard the Maple Leafs and Flames have expressed trade interest in him before,” another NHL source told RG recently. “I’d also keep an eye on the Hurricanes. Look, this kid was expected to have teams willing to sign him if he hadn’t re-upped with the Bruins just before free agency started. Teams have called on him before, and if he goes through, I’d be surprised if he’s not claimed.”
DiPietro signed a two-year, $1.3 million ($812,500 AAV) contract with the Bruins on June 30 after a brilliant 2024-25 season with the Providence Bruins. The 26-year-old goalie went 26-8-5 with a 2.05 GAA and a .927 save percentage. He earned first-team AHL All-Star honors and won the 2025 Aldege ‘Baz’ Bastien award as the league’s best goalie

DiPietro would be a good get to help shore up the crease.
Cooley has me feeling very uneasy and we have b2b games to start so he will start one of them..

It certainly sounds like DiPietro will be on waivers:

			I bet Flames claim Kahkonen.
But I hope they claim DiPietro or Daws

if the Oilers are only waiving Jones, sounds like someone- too good to try out for Tampa Howard or the old european saviour must be heading to the AHL- possibly on a paper transaction while they figure out LTIR

Sorry for being a pessimist guys, but while he has sparkling AHL numbers, I don’t see DiPietro as an upgrade on Cooley in the NHL. I would much rather take Kahkonen or Daws.

it seems like there are better backup options on waivers than we currently have. Flames would have to waive someone to pick someone up though, wouldn't they?

I wonder which guy they opt for.
They probably want one with nhl experience, as tempting as DiPietros glowing stats look.

Ooo. Heinola needs a fresh start after injuries have screwed things up for him in WPG. Another player I'd file a claim for.

Seen this to on Twitter. Random Boston fans mind you but they are saying he has trouble tracking the puck and a weak glove at the NHL level. Doesn’t seem like they will miss him.

The only waiver-exempt players left are Gridin and Parekh. Gridin could be assigned to the AHL on Monday and be brought back up on Tuesday if the Flames waive a player tomorrow. There's also IR.

with all due respect there are better players here than anyone the Flames have waived...at least equal. For the "poor asset management" types
