Yeah, if not for the allegations, i wouldn't hesitate in voting for Hehr. But they're kinda a big deal

Was in the area today so stopped in at Gondek’s campaign office. Not much happening. Out working the streets, I guess.

It got me thinking…What candidates are leading the polls?

It's a three-way with Farkas, Gondek and Sharp leading in the polls

Wiebe is okay, but lacks relevant experience and is attached to communities first party. She repeats a lot of those points, which seems inauthentic to me.

Schmidt seems authentic and genuine and aligns with my urbanist preferences. But I think in a lot of ways he reminds me of Walcott, where I'm not sure hes actually going to be responsive to constituent issues who aren't ideologically aligned with him.

I'm torn between Schmidt and Hehr. I wonder if they split a lot of votes and wiebe comes up the center.
I’m not sure who I’ll be voting for in Ward 8 yet
I won’t be voting for Hehr because of his baggage.
I will have a closer look at Schmidt
Any thoughts about Gary Bobrovitz? He finished 2nd to Walcott in 2021

Gary seems to be a bit of a civic populist. This is his policy from his website:
Boost Public Safety.
-Start cop foot patrols in Ward 8
-Create police hub station on 17 ave Red Mile district
-Hire more officers for Inner City

Repeal Blanket Zoning.
- Amend LAP to build sensible density + affordable homes
- Urban development must be supported by Communities

Freeze Calgary Taxes
- Prioritize Fiscal Restraint
- Get Value when spending Taxpayer Dollars

Improve Communications.
- Monthly Update meetings with Community Associations.
- Call me to discuss ANY ISSUE

Help vulnerable Calgarians. Tackle addiction-homelessness-social disorder.

Support Ward 8 businesses and fight the Trump Tariffs.

Create more parks for families.

His claim to fame is that he was a milquetoast TV reporter and apparently a world-class power lifter. He says he is a centrist and wants to be a guy that brings council together, but his positions don't seem to indicate that. Some of these seem okay but he lost me with the rezoning and tax freeze.

I think I've locked in on Schmidt at this point.

Have there been any polls released? I really haven’t seen much. Overall, it seems like the election is an afterthought for most people at this point?

I thought Farkas and Gondek were the front-runners with everyone else well behind. Then a pollster who supports Sharp and Communities First (is that the right party?) and donated money to her / them did a poll and suddenly it's a three way race.

As for councillors, I cross them off the list as soon as they mention "tax freeze." Taxes aren't a bad thing. The reason we elect a council is to run a city and do things like build and maintain roads, have a fire fighting system, etc. It's much more efficient and works better if "Calgary" does this than if each of us pays for / builds our own. And how do we pay for that? Taxes. You can argue that what a councillor chooses to direct our taxes to is wrong, but if your message is simply, "Taxes bad!" I feel like you either represent a political system I disagree with, or you're not very aware of what the role of councillor is and probably aren't ready for the job.

Jeff Davison has been very critical of the polling:

Calgary deserves better than lies and deception from fake polls.

When you’re the party architect of Communities First AND the principal of Think HQ polling, that’s called a conflict of interest.

It’s unethical.
It’s deceptive.

And Calgarians deserve better.

✅ Do your research
✅ Trust your judgment
✅ Make your vote count for Calgary’s future

We need leadership rooted in integrity and not manipulation.

On election day let’s stand for honesty, transparency, and a Calgary that works for everyone.

That polling doesn’t seem that crazy to me. Completely unscientific, but for mayors I haven’t seen any Gondek signs on private property, and more Sharp than anyone else. I think she’s run a great campaign, and Gondek doesn’t seem to have done as much.

That could be. Gondek's campaign sounds like a real mess. I've met her and she seems like a caring person who can do a good job as mayor and actually owns up to her mistakes, but I don't think she's great at the "political" side of the job. And, unfortunately, if you can't do that, it doesn't matter how great your ideas are or your work ethic is.

There was another poll conducted by Leger from Sept 26 to 28

Farkas leads with 16% and is closely followed by Gondek with 14%. Sharp (11%), Davison (8%), and Thiessen (4%) round out the top 5 candidates.

35% of residents report that they are unsure or undecided regarding their voting intentions

Tons of Gondek signs on private property in the inner city and have only seen a couple Sharp.

Ward 3 is such a mixed bag and the only name I recognize is Andrew Yule from the “Save Nose Creek” organization.

Hate to agree with Davison but yeah, the polls trying to frame Sharp as catching up that much to Farkas and Gondek are definitely suspect when they're ran by a guy that works on her campaign.

Any thoughts on Ward 11?

I think it's pretty cool that Alex Williams just ride up to my house on his bike to deliver his door hanger, and he seems like a really good guy with lots of ideas.

I watched the last debate online and thought Penner really knows her stuff and actually understand how city management works. My only actual interaction with her was when she told me on Insta that she basically hates Chick Fil A for whatever reason.

I'm hoping to attend the next debate on Tuesday and ask a question about sports/cultural event funding which is something that's really important to me.

I dunno. My guess is the right of center vote is trying to figure out who to coalesce around between Davison, Sharp, Farkas. I don't see why they wouldn't split the vote almost equally between the three which is what the polls seem to show. They all have similar name recognition. And I haven't seen anything that gives one candidate the edge over the others.

Same here. The promise of a tax freeze tells me that candidate is: 1. Lying, or 2. Has no idea how local government works. Both are red flags.
