At least we won't have to face Schlittler until like game 3 or 4

Warren or Gil game 1 probably then Fried game 2, Rodon game 3 and Schlittler game 4?
Or do they go Fried game 1 so he can pitch a potential game 5?

He didn't make it out of the 2nd inning last time we faced him.

The way the days off/schedule line up for the ALDS, the game 2 starter can pitch game 5 on regular rest

Just make contact and then let that terrible Yankee defense do the work for us.

The Jays for a lot of the year were a good fastball hitting team. They hit the hard throwers better than anyone or at least they were until they slumped at the end. So if they can make a guy like Schlittler stay in the zone, lay off the ones out of the zone and foul of pitches like they did the last time they faced him they can frustrate him and run up the pitch count and take the c and l's out of his surname.

What do we think the Jays pitching will look like each game?
My guess:
Game 1 - Gausman
Game 2 - Bieber
(Off Day)
Game 3 - Yesevage
Game 4 - Scherzer/Lauer
(Off Day)
Game 5 - Gausman
EDIT: Maybe Bassitt in that Game 4 slot?

I was listening to gate 14 podcast and I like their idea of giving Yesavage game 2 and Bieber game 3. Let Yesavages first career playoff game be a home game instead of a hostile environment in New York. You also let him go maybe 4 innings and then go Lauer with all the Yank lefties. Also Scherzer can't be on the roster. Yankees will mash him, especially the lefties

Gonna throw out a wild proposal. It's not necessarily what I think they should do, but its what I think they might do...and there's some logic behind it.
Game 1 - Gausman
Game 2 - Bassit then Yesavage (You need 4 starters anyways, and Bassit's road splits are TERRIBLE). Have Bassitt pitch at Skydome until trouble comes along, then bring in Trey. Much harder to gameplan for the Yankees by the Jays not announcing Yesavage ahead of time.
(Off Day)
Game 3 - Bieber
Game 4 - Varland/Lauer (followed by Scherzer/bullpen as required). This combo worked beautifully for the Jays last week, and the day off after allows for a full bullpen arsenal if required.
(Off Day)
Game 5 - Gausman/Yesavage. Start Gausman until trouble then bring in Trey.
This strategy keeps Bassitt and Yesavage away from Yankee stadium, and allows you to use Yesavage twice as a secret weapon without announcing it either time.
Its not how I would do it. But I think there's some merit to this.

Makes sense! Might as well give him the reigns.
And the way the schedule is set up, you aren't married to him as the game 5 starter either. Whoever goes game 2 will also have enough rest for a potential game 5 start. Gives you a little more wiggle room in case he struggles

I like all of that, but I have Scherzer on the roster and ask him to be a leverage reliever...if he's willing. Maybe he's John Smoltz?

I want no part of Scherzer pitching to a lineup full of power bats at Yankee stadium and its little league right field fence. That's a recipe for disaster, imo.

Fluharty better be on the playoff roster.
And in an ideal world, Hoffman would be off the playoff roster (he's not trustworthy or reliable enough), but the latter will never happen.
