I've had Gemstone for about 5+ years now and they are great.

I got gemstones about 4 years ago. They have been great. There was even some haggling on the price and they allowed me to pay in a few installments.

They are completely hidden and you can turn on any number, to any colour, to any brightness you want so I'm not sure why there's this attitude that pots are better. I looked at both and for me, gemstones were far and away the best option.

That said, my neighbor put up Govee permanents from Costco. He installed them where his siding meets his soffits and it casts the light more on his house which looks really good. I know he has a background as an electrician so they were a breeze for him to install. Not sure how easy they are for regular folk.

Weird. What rule number is not talking about them then?

Ahhh, makes sense, then. I grew up there as well prior to my ascension to greatness. It's a pretty limiting quadrant, but when it's all you know it can feel like a full life.

Flexible enough to move my arm down, clasp my hand in a loose fist, then move my arm up toward my head and open my hand? Yeah, I'm flexible enough for that. I'm practically a gymnast.

So, honest question (I come in peace): Why? I understand not wanting to install Christmas lights every year, even though these aren’t as nice, and I can even appreciate wanting some kind of soft white trim, even though I personally dislike it and wish we could just let night be night, which is to say, dark… but the gaudy year-round multi-colour flashing demo mode displays? Why? Who are they for? It’s mostly your neighbours who have to look at them, and they probably didn’t ask for them.

It's generally people desperate for attention and it's just another one of their many futile attempts to achieve any that falls flat causing them to become even more desperate.

Oh...absolutely kill me now. My mom went and did this and got these app-controlled lights.

For. Why?

She barely knows how to use her phone and shes one of those people where I can read her texts from across the room because the font is so huge and I can hear her phone ring from an adjoining Province.

Half the time her phone is dead!

And she wants to control all of these exterior lights with this?

Guess what? Day 1. "How do I turn the lights off?"

You open the app on your phone and turn them off.

"My phone is 87,000 rooms away charging because its dead though!"

Lucky phone. At the moment I wish I was dead.

Remember 20 years ago when young people put ground effects on their Civic? Same thing. These people own homes now.

I totally pondered doing this for a quick minute back then until I reread the phrase “Chicks dig scars” and realized it said scars not cars.

Any solutions for permanent christmas lights then from the haters?

When I'm looking into gemstones, the comparables are:
1) Doing christmas lights myself in a really shoddy manner - already shot down in this thread.
2) Pay $500 a year for install and take down.

Noone is using these as year round lights every single day. It's usually for christmas, maybe halloween and canada day and maybe if the Flames win the cup.

i just don't do decorations/lights. I appreciate them on neighbors houses and am happy to free ride on the holiday spirit. I've come to peace with that decision, as selfish as it may be.

People with these permanent lights are basically the same as me, but haven't made peace with it yet. So they invest $1000s into these lights, and it's a giant waste of money because it adds nothing to the community/holiday spirit and they aren't fooling anyone except maybe their own kids.
