Low risk, no regret move by the Oilers.

Desperate move from a team that insisted they were happy with their goalies all summer

This is all so they can run a Pickard/Ingram tandem to fit their roster under the playoff cap.

They have a three headed monster in net now.

Ingram's already cleared so he can be sent down without going back on waivers.

If they bring him up to the Oilers though...which obviously is the plan, then what? 3 headed monster or waive somebody. Ingram just past waivers for a reason, the Oilers other two guys don't IMO.

I suppose that keeps the Oilers' cap hit at zero as long as he's in the minors, but I would have thought the Mammoth could have gotten more for that retention as well.

From what I’ve read, he is a pretty troubled guy. I am not sure you want to put the weight of world on him.

So he's a) a couple years old than Skinner, b) has essentially the same stats as Skinner, and c) turns 29 during the season....

So I guess they told McDavid they couldn't manage to get a better goalie so they said how about we go for quantity instead.

McDavid is happy now and they'll sign him for the next 8 years. It would be longer but the league puts crazy rules so that the Oilers have to share their superstar players with the rest of the league.

Would they let the Oilers use a shooter tutor? I mean that might give them an advantage they are looking for.
Tutor covers alot of net and im sure since they throw money around like they do they can afford to buy a backup too

I mean the way Edmonton Defends with those big dollar defenceman was doesn't Raz just head up north and make serious bank !!

Not sure this helps the Oilers and it uses up some of their cap space.

But why would Utah use their 2nd salary retention spot for future considerations? They have tons of space. Those RS spots are going to be valuable for teams selling at the deadline.

They badly wanted to get rid of him and there were no takers...but "shrewd Oilers" according to hockey media and many fans

Teams continue to do the Oilers favors, big and small. Katz must be spending money like crazy under the table. Yet Connor has yet to be given the Kawhi Leonard treatment.

They have some UFAs and they probably aren't a playoff team. They have potential to be a playoff team, but it is not a lock.

Lots of prospects and guys like Schmaltz they could sell on. Stenlund, Cole are other examples. RS in a trade at the deadline to get better value is more valuable than future considerations for Ingram.

Bury him in the AHL? He doesn't have an NMC.
