I think they see Hughes and Hamilton being redundant. Moving Hamilton's $9MM makes a lot of sense. They could move him to a team like Anaheim for assets like Mintyukov, Zellweger or a young forward.
That would make the most sense for the Devils.

Hamilton has a ten team no trade now, he's a very valuable player and could easily be moved to anyone that can fit him in. Would love to have him back.

MMF is the tough as nails cop that "plays by his own rules". The force keeps suspending him when he crosses the line but he keeps coming back and then cracks a big case.

They are ~$3.5M in the hole now....a bit strange that they didn't leave or make themselves some room this summer in advance of this being finalized. Would like to see Conroy offer up some cap relief for a draft pick here.
For Hughes, the AAV seems like a lot, but the reality of today's league is that a $9M player can be pretty good, but doesn't need to be great with truly elite players earning north of 12M. Deal should be a bargain in 2-3 seasons as odd as that sounds.

Firstly, I can all but guarantee the Flames are on that no trade list. Secondly, why would the Flames want him back now? Calgary is on the verge of having Parekh fill a prime OZ start and PP1 role, and if you're not playing Hamilton like that, he's of little use to a team like this IMO.
