The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned the following players to the Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League:

Hunter Brzustewicz (D)

Nick Cicek (D)

Artem Grushnikov (D)

Sam Honzek (LW)

Owen Say (G)

William Stromgren (LW/RW)

Aydar Suniev (LW)

The Flames have placed the following players on waivers, for the purpose of reassignment to the Calgary Wranglers (AHL):

Clark Bishop (C)

Dryden Hunt (LW)

Yan Kuznetsov (D)

Sam Morton (C)

The Flames now have three goalies, nine defencemen, and 15 forwards for a total of 27 players at camp.

Morton going down seems to indicate, to me at least, that Kerins is making the team to start the year. Or Gridin. Or both, potentially.

I don't think it will be - they are in a bit of tizzy about losing Regula or Norris Emberson

Honzek was ok but not like a major push to the team that we couldn't deny. Dominate the AHL and get used to your new body etc..

Brzustewicz looked good but Parekh probably standing between him and an opening on the main roster to start the season.

Honzek could probably do with another season in the AHL to get his game where it needs to be.

So Kerins, Gridin still up as forwards, that means Kirkland too I think so far..
I thought Morton was way better than Kirkland so far..

Crossing fingers Morton and Kuz are not claimed. They have the potential to be back up very soon.

That said, the Wranglers are going to be fun to watch this year.

Funny how Kirkland has gone from a favorite to a hated Flame for some reason.

Maybe, just maybe he brings something the others do not.
