Markstrom was pretty average last season and doesn't seem to handle pressure well...at his age I wouldn't be extending him for very long

I think average is a better term than washed.
Both stats sites have him in the bottom of starters for goals saved above average.
Certainly not in the top third or middle third.

I might be remembering incorrectly, but I feel like he started off strong, then came back down a bit, though still fairly decent, then got hurt, then was below average when he returned.

Vert streaky goalie so not surprised, injuries aside. He has seasons like that year he was the only reason Vancouver made the playoffs ( .918 SP, 2019-20) and the 9 shutout year with us, then has the seasons he has following those seasons.

You're kind of right, he had a very average Oct-Nov with a sv% around .902, then he had an absolutely amazing month of December with a .937 sv%, and a good January with a .910 sv% before spraining his MCL and having a tough go all the way until the playoffs.
Pre-injury: 36GS, 21-9-5, 2.2GAA, .912sv%, 3SO
Post-injury: 13GS, 5-7-1, 3.3GAA, .869sv%, 1SO
Playoffs: 5GS, 1-4-0, 2.8GAA, .911sv%, 0SO
Finally I really like adding 2 indicators from Dobber Sports based on xGA. Steals, and Preventable Losses.
Markstrom 1 Steal, 7 PLs.
In comparison:
Vladar 2 Steals, 2PLs
Wolf 7 Steals, 2 PLs
Allen 4 Steals, 2 PLs
*A steal is a win that should've been a loss if the goalie had allowed the expected goals against, on the flip side a preventable loss would've been a win under the same circumstances.
At the end of the day Markstrom is a decent goalie, he gives his team a chance to win on most nights, but I wouldn't expect him to single-handedly win his team a playoff series, let alone the cup.

Seems Reichel is primarily a winger but that’s a low risk move Conroy would love to take. Gotta send a body the other way though.

Why? We have our own variations on that theme.
He needs to sort out opening night roster and resolve Raz and get a #1C. Hopefully, the latter can happen in one deal.
Everything thing else is a distraction. Reichel is CHI’s problem.

Reichel doesnt do much for us.
No need to logjam our already overflowing winger conundrum.
No place in the top 9 for him.

If I were the Flames, I would only put a claim in on a centre who had a good chance of sticking with the team, or a decent backup goaltender.

Exactly.
Andersson + winger prospect + vegas 1st for a #1C would be a good starting point for the Flames to trade out from positions of depth (RD, Wing, 1st round picks) to get the position they need the most. It certainly helps that the wingers are showing well in this preseason.

Reichel is not a need unless he’s a top 6 center.

Man, one can hope. If CC can get this team a star #1C somehow that cements him as an all time great servant of this franchise.
It’s going to be so hard to draft a star C. This team will not fall as low as the last rebuild did because of prime Wolf. If Zayne is the real deal, then CC has to be all chips in now to get that #1C. It just has to happen.

Honest question, is there a team in the league that would make this move? I think GM’s across the league are loathe to give up a top line C let alone a top 2C. Especially one that fits the age window Conroy has spoken to.
It would have to get a pretty enticing package and that one being discussed seems to lack a true blue-chip piece coming back. Maybe if the winger is Gridin.
Also depends on the quality of said 1C. Are we talking about an established player like, say, Matt Barzal or a younger player who has not yet proved himself to be a 1C like, say, Shane Wright? Are these guys even 1C’s?
In either case I’m not sure either makes sense as a reading partner. I’d be surprised if the Islanders had interest in Anderson and I’d be surprised if he had interest in them. As for the Kraken, I’m not sure they would want to trade Wright at this point, especially within the division. Maybe if you took out Andersson and out and added Bruztewicz. Aside from a top 10 draft pick I’m not sure if there is a more coveted asset than a potential top of the lineup C who is young and under team control.
I remain convinced the best, maybe only, way for the Flames to land this player will be through the draft. The one exception I could foresee would be Necas as a UFA signing.

I'm with diss at this point, with the league showing interest previously in Pospisil and the emergence of some young guys on the Flames, I'm totally on board with packaging him up with Andersson for a better package back.

Have you heard anything regarding what that package could look like?.
