Basically the ideal outcome for the day, it was compelling and the Americans didn't win so we didn't have to see them do the Pedo Shuffle afterwards.

This was the first time I’ve actively cheered for the Europeans, but I’m glad the Americans made it close. I love sports drama and the comeback by the Yanks made for some great drama. I love this tournament.

Some American bloke at the mic just congratulated the Euros on ‘retaining’ the cup. A slip of tongue or hint that the Americans should have gotten the full pt because of the WD by Hovland?

Europe got to 15, so they can concede the full point for Hovland and still win. And they should now for the lolz.

Yuh, Im bad at maths. Had the americans gotten that full pt, it would still have been 14.5. So the half pt in the final match theoretically eliminates the controversy.
Im a Euro fan all the way and not interested in cheesy sentiment, but the Americans did redeem themselves considerably on the final day.

I have no interest in this but watching some of the obnoxious chanting and cursing at the Europeans but the fans, I desperately want the Euros to win this. If Americans wonder why so much if the world hates their country, this display is why.

I agree, but there is a no question the ryder cup being Euro hosted in somewhere like France this year, given the widespread anti-american sentiment, would have been downright dirty.

The Americans only won the 1991 Ryder Cup because of that rule. If they did not have that rule and had the rule the Americans now want that the full point goes to the team that has a player who can play the Europeans would have won the 1991 Ryder Cup. Suspect American commentator memory does not go back that far but they should change the rule for this Ryder cup and retroactively change the rule for that Ryder Cup.

The video of the Euros celebrating on the plane coming home, and the yelling and singing to taunt Trump and the rude Americans, was delightful.

It's a bad rule and should be changed going forward. Same with the idea that it could end in a tie. You only play it every two years, you need to have an actual winner.

If they took a team event and made it an even more individual competition than the singles already make it just to break a tie that would be the worst outcome. Americans crying about a rule that that has been in place for 46 years is ridiculous. Having an individual tie breaker to settle the Ryder Cup would be even worse. I am fine with both rules.
There is an actual winner in the event of a tie, it is the winner from the previous Ryder Cup. That is the tiebreaker. The amount of history that has already been thrown out of golf for TV already kinda sucks, dumbing down the Ryder Cup just to find a winner would be just a further watering down of golf traditions.

Well that’s not exactly right. There is no “winner” in case of a tie. One team simply retains the Cup, so it’s as if nothing is settled.
I don’t see a rules discussion as an “American” thing the way you do. No one is trying to change previous results. As for watering down traditions, rules get updated all the time. This is entertainment after all.
