That would mean retaining half his salary for 4 seasons. That's over $10 million in real money. The acquisition cost would have to be huge for that to make any sense for the Flames.

They are too busy celebrating the injury. Barkov deserves it because Florida fans are jerks.

I think it would make more sense to add players to the deal, so you don't have to retain.
Kadri, Coleman 50% RS and Pachal 50% RS
for
Lundell, Rodriguez and Kulikov.
Florida may have to add picks, and we end up with Lundell who has 5 years left on his deal and is a steal contract.
Pachal and Markstrom RS off the books next summer. We could look to dump Rodriguez and Kulikov next year.
All 3 Florida players do not have an NTC.

What about Samoskevich? The Panthers kind of need him for cheap effective depth, though.

Kadri is not waiving for Florida anyhow.

Florida's not trading Lundell. Especially not now.

It's sacrilege to even compare to this player, but Barkov is the most complete player next to Crosby IMO.

Not to make this fully about the Flames but a half season injury to Tkachuk and a full season injury to Barkov is exactly what we could have used last year to help our draft position.

Was gonna say this. I think Potter is still selected in the late teens/early 20s if Florida didn’t win the cup.

That's a huge loss for FLA. It would be interesting to see how well they defend without him, because he made life so much easier for his defensemen.
On that note, Chicago is going to get a pretty good pick for Seth Jones as a result. Now I wish we'd gotten the 26' FLA 1st instead of the 32nd overall pick. The Flames still did great with Potter.

I think Florida just limps into the POs and hopes Barkov can recover in time for them.

No Barkov for a whole season and no Tkachuk until what, after the Olympics?
Going to be a tough season but one I'm sure they can live with given 2 their cup rings.

They're probably rejoicing in edmonton.
Meanwhile Toronto probably feeling Marner's loss for real now. This was their year lmao

Don’t see them making panic move. I think if they struggle through the first 1/4 of the season, they might look to shore up their centre depth if they know he won’t return for playoffs. Thing is, they have so much depth on the team I don’t think they will feel the loss as much as people think… until playoffs. At that point, they will definitely miss Barkov.
Do they have any valuable picks/assets left to trade for a top 1-2 centre this year anyways? Those types of players usually cost a 1st + 2nd + good prospect.
