The real reason for all your pessimism regarding this years version of the Flames...hoping for less game stories

Hughes is a world class talent. You're right. I think that he is the next player to ask out of town. That team is so disfunctonal.

I know winning on hard work is very tiring and hard to replicate year over year. But I think it's a more talented roster than the start of the season last year, which will hopefully translate to a few more 2+ goal wins and they won't have to hard scrabble for 60 minutes to scrape out every win.

The Flames? They missed the playoffs by a Wild goal with 20 seconds left in game 81 after the Ducks missed the EN

On top of that, the Flames tied the Blues in points and lost on the last playoff spot on a tie breaker. The Flames tied the record for most points in a season without making the playoffs.
How can you possibly interpret that result as being out of it with 10 games left. The Flames literally tied the record for being as close to making the playoffs, but not actually making them, as a team could be.

Blues also won 12 straight...franchise record of a team from the 60s. If they won 11 straight the Flames would have made it

Hughes has all the earmarks of a player who is going to want to out. Beyond what's going on in Vancouver, Hughes has heavy ties to the East Coast of the USA and both of his brothers play for the Devils.
From reports, the Hughes brothers are exceptionally close. Luke plays defence, and Quinn mentored him growing up. I can definitely see Quinn wanting to play with his brothers again, if he has the chance.

Exactly. A bunch of improbably things had to happen, that were outside of the Flames' control, for the Flames to miss the playoffs last year. In any other year, they make it.

It’ll be interesting to see. I think the Flames are one of the most prepared teams to play in the league and it seems to stem from Huska.
With the team so similar to last year too I wonder if we see another strong start out of the gate.

The Flames' record in the last 10 games was extremely good. Our playoff odds come game 70 were hovering in the 20-30% category if I remember correctly. It was incredibly statistically unlikely that we would make the playoffs, and lo and behold, we didn't, and that's because we were far enough behind by that point that we needed a miracle run. We got a miracle run and still didn't make it. That's what I'm talking about.

So I think it'll be more or less a wash.

I also think the article itself was fine.
These model projections always get some people twisted up for some reason, but the actual article seemed like a fair take.
Even Vegas have the over set at 82.5 or 83.5 for the Flames, and they usually know what the line on making money is.
My personal take, is even if the Flames lost 6 more games this year (a 15% drop from the 41 they had last season) they would still beat the spread at 83.5 points.
There's something weird about this team, they do seem to be greater than the sum of their parts. No top line, extremely questionable defense, missed the playoffs by zero points. There's got to be something there.

Flames beat the Vegas over under often...probably 7 times in the last 10 years
I don't think the media (whom are mostly in the east) have a good grasp on the team. The shortened covid season they were under and the previous season didn't finish so * that year.
Sure Wolf carried them...Dan Vladar was over in point percentage too though

Vegas doesn't set odds by knowing what's going to happen. Vegas sets odds based on how people are betting at any given moment.

Dallas was never attached to Kadri before. I can't imagine he would want to move his family down to Texas, especially in the current social climate.

Huh. I don't recall Kadri or Andersson having Dallas nameplates on their jerseys, what game was that?

Kadri no, Andersson… maybe?
Coleman’s name had been mentioned around Dallas, I’m sure he’s been able to talk to Rasmus about family living down there.
