Molson Canadian returns as Flames' official beer; Dutton's to be renamed
Press Release
Molson Canadian was the team's official beer from 1980 to 2011 before moving to Budweiser (2011-2022) and Original 16 (2022-2025). This also means Molson Coors products return to the Saddledome concourses.
And Dutton's Original 16 Lounge now becomes Molson Hockey House at Dutton’s. Restaurant's now fully renovated and should be alive and kicking for the next two years until the Dome's closing.
Thoughts?

Good. Original 16 was awful. Felt like a minor league beer sponsor.

Had a pint of Canadian at the first pre-season game against the Oilers, and holy F it was bad.
I don't consider myself a beer snob, and I can usually choke anything down, but I had to return it as it tasted sour. Tried another tap at the same location and it was still sour... choked that one down before turning to Banded Peak afterwards.

Molson is good beer. I wouldn't pick it as my number 1 but I'll pick it over Budweiser

I noticed there were Molson board ads during the preseason games, so I was wondering if this was happening.
This also likely means one of the bars in the new building will be branded as Molson Hockey House too.

From an industry perspective, I know Labatt's are probably beside themselves right now. They have been so dominant, especially in Western Canada, for so long that Molson's sudden spending course change over the last 18 months has absolutely smoked them. I know with Rogers Arena they didn't expect any serious competition for the contract and were caught off guard when Molson swooped in. I would be shocked if they were not more aggressive in Alberta, and still lost out.
I'd be interested to find out if Labatt's ground game is also starting to lag behind in Alberta. BC has seen a lot of bar and restaurant Macro taps change from Labatts to Molson. Stanley Park becoming Granville Island, Bud Light becoming Coors Light etc etc.

Do the right thing and offer Colt 45. It's only marginally worse than Canadian for an extra 3% ABV. Easy choice.

It’s all the same stuff they sell at McMahon so not much different to me. I assume Banded Peak is staying around?

Would be surprising if they did, they are a Labatt brand.

It's strange, Canadian was the original heroin beer, but seemed like it lost the heroin effect in the mid 2000s. It was like New Coke...just not the same. I suspect the 2025 version of Canadian at the dome will be void of heroin.
