You can't run 10 forward on Blood Wine alone! I recommend:

Looks like it's the season finale of SNW this week. I wonder if we'll get a cliffhanger?
Also, wonder how long until next season? It shouldn't be too long since I believe they're already finished shooting it.

I admire your optimism, but I guarantee we'll be waiting at least 2 years before season 4 airs.

Watched the finale. I think they landed the emotion they wanted to capture but I wasn't a fan of the story they chose to get there.
That's a vague as I can be without getting spoilery.

So DS9's The Reckoning, but 1/5th as good.
Not sure what to think about this one. I'll give it a 6. Honestly had a pretty hard time getting into it.

It sure seems like the writers had absolutely no idea what to do with Pella this season. The character served a function in season 2, It's just now they don't have a clue what to do with her except to pencil-in a chuckle every 15 to 20 pages.

It wasn't a disappointing season per se, as it's light years (pun intended) ahead of all the other "Trek for modern audiences" we've seen (other than the 10/10 Lower Decks).
But this season certainly fell short of the last two.

As for the episode, it's hard to drum up much emotion for tertiary characters. If it had been #1 or Nurse Chapel going through it, we might care more... but they have the best kind of armor... plot armor. So it's Letterkenny guest captain and Ensign Expendable instead.

It's a really big cast for a short run show.
Side note - if you play Skyrim - they stole the baddies outfit from the Falmer Armor right?
The Inner Light was an inspiration for it... and it had some of the pull... but again, it was given short service.

The fear I have is that if they filmed much of season 4 already, we're in for more of the same.

I'll take it. It's not bad. But it hasn't reached the high bar of the first two seasons IMO.

As others have said it was a midling season which still makes it better than Discovery.
Wish they leaned more into Battle becoming a cosmic god/Q like entity. What we got was a bit underwhelming.

On the plus Kirk and Spock are clicking.

Yea, this wasn’t nearly as good as season 1 & 2. But still quite enjoyable with 3 or 4 really solid episodes. And overall it’s a hell of a lot better than the abysmal Discovery. Here’s hoping they get back to form in S4.

It was just a ok episode with a lot of issues.

I mean the story line of someone basically become a god has been done before and it really removed the satisfactory beating of the antagonist.

The resolution seems to easy, going through the whole Pike Life thing was a ham fisted way of bringing in emotion.

I think that's how I'd define this episode Ham Fisted.

It was a average TV show season, but that's the problem when you've had two outstanding seasons, and the writing caused it, and the over reliance on strange humor episodes that didn't work at all like the we're all Vulcan's episode.

Oh well two years til the next one.

They make more money therefore they are better writers.

Yeah, I've been concerned about this too. Pretty steep drop-off but before they even got the reviews in S4 is already done?

We already know they're doing at least one filler/comedic episode with puppets in S4, so that leaves us with 9 episodes where they can hopefully get back on track and do some good old fashioned exploration/adventure type stories. Seasons 1 & 2 had a lot of these kinds of episodes, and they were all excellent. I want more of that, please.

I did read an article where they were blaming the writer's strike for the disjointedness of this season and hyping up S4 but...what else would they realistically do?

Thing is...SNW has an Endgame. However it is they want to wrap it up, they know its coming and, one would presume, have at least outlined how and when they want to get there.

This is when you pull out all the stops and go for broke. No more filler.

I've been contemplating this for a while and I am not sure it's been talked about in the last few pages but...

Star Trek really just doesn't seem to work in a 10 episode format. It really needs the season length to fill out the characters and give you that feel of people doing a job that has varying levels of stakes over a varying type of issues. With the lack of episodes to fill that feeling out, the episodes with slower pace or less serious tone stand out as so much worse in comparison. Would Hollow Pursuits stand up if it didn't have six or seven episodes on either side of it that kept the tone of the series?
