I wrote this in the McDavid and Drai thread. Most people think I am crazy for ever saying a bad word about the almighty... but I no one is willing to criticize this dude.. makes me nuts.
I have been saying for a long time that I do not like McDavid's leadership. I do not like his interference, I do not like his "all about getting me a cup" attitude, I do not like his interviews where he just looks like it is all beneath him and he just spouts cliches.
I do not like that he disappears in the final
I do not like that he doesn't play a lick of defence, but then gets pissy when asked why.
I do not like that he doesn't dominate in the big moments - just in the "it doesn't matter" moments.
I do not like that structures do not apply to him - every system we have already revolves around him and then he doesn't even follow it.
I do not like that he has never captained a championship team in his entire career except two meaningless tournaments.
Enjoy McDavid... because as long as we have him - we will not get a cup.
|
While this guy is not wrong, I think he also needs to touch a little grass.
Yeah, with McDavid you're probably not winning any Cups, or maybe you get lucky, but WITHOUT McDavid? You're only sniffing the #### stench of Edmonton and not the NHL Playoffs in the first place.
Yeah, maybe this is as good as it gets...but its still way better for Oilfans than the alternative.

At times like this I kind of love his snippy, uncharismatic way of handling predictable questions, and human interactions in general.
The best part is the oilers media fires back with even less tact or awareness.
Insecurity oozes from that team's flying monkeys like Bob Stauffer's forehead discharges sweat when an imagined penalty on McDinky goes uncalled.

If you believe this report, apparently there’s been no contact between Stan Bowman and McDavid’s agent.
It’s starting to get ugly…
https://athlonsports.com/nhl/edmonto...ng-to-get-ugly
Moreover, I have to think it sends a poor message to the rest of the team; the captain doesn’t believe in you, and Connor and only Connor is deserving of a Stanley Cup.

Hopefully the Bowman hire comes back to bite them in the worst way.
If Derek Ryan says the new management group there is disrespectful and no good, then I believe it.
Hang onto 'em long enough to bungle a McDavid extension and send that team back to the ice age.

He's also probably a good choice to bungle a trade if it comes down to that.

That weiner on the 1440 morning show is trying to claim that Wolf isn't any different than Skinner after the signing was reported.

Another day, another Staples article. The paranoia is boiling over. All of the emotions represented, from anger (“furious with the Toronto commentators wringing their hands”) to helpless resignation (“if he wants to seek his fortune elsewhere, so be it”).

He can’t skip straight to acceptance, he hasn’t completed bargaining and depression yet!

It's a Perfect Storm.
Edmonton's typical civic self-esteem issues collide with the Centre of the Universe. You can't manufacture this degree of hype. Maximum melodrama.
Sit back and enjoy the popcorn!

What’s funny is everything can spiral out of control really fast. If the oilers start the season as poorly as they usually do, that likely hurts the chances of him signing even more. Struggling to start the season and McDavid not signing will stir up the “Should the oilers consider trading McDavid if they are not in a playoff spot by the TDL?” and the “can’t let him walk to free agency and have nothing to show for it”. That will spiral into trade rumours and distractions and the implosion will be epic.

I can't wait for the 'is mcdavid holding the oilers back?' articles in November as they move through their grieving stages in embarrassing fashion.

I can see it now "Will the Oilers be a better team without McDavid? With the new cap structure, Oilers will be able to build a deeper team instead of being top heavy."
