Presumably he means expanded as compared to the regular season...

He was in on the delayed and optimally timed 2 surgery scheme just as gleefully as the Oilers were to get an additional player using his salary hit, all season.

He was happy to be paid to not work for 8 months.

It was likely part of what was addressed in the new CBA.

Another rule change because the Oilers are morons who completely ignored the subtleties of LTIR.

He had elective surgery for something that he’s played with his entire career. Clearly to circumvent the cap. But at the end of the day medical interpretation has an element of subjectivity. Evander has, can, & will say whatever he wants. As long as he’s onboard, it’s hard to prove otherwise.

The Oinkers likely responded with some Oiler jock sniffing physician to verify that it was required because of Evander’s feelings.

Losers.

The new language in the CBA “Unfit to play player” is what the Edmonton Hockey Team should be renamed.

Yeah, I think before they close that book they'd best read it first, but Edmonton being Alberta's Capitol we know they're not big on reading, but the Kane scenario was about as obvious circumvention as there could be.

Explanation is they took it too far and ruined it for everyone so they changed the rule.

Of course it was going to be Edmonton

Pretty sure they also reminded the teacher that they did now give out homework for the weekend.

I love taking shots at EDM as much as the next guy, but I'm glad the LTIR loophole is closed. IMO Vegas, and Tampa took it too far first. The NHL just couldn't close the loophole in a flat cap world where most teams struggled just to stay cap compliant.

It’s just so Edmonton to ruin something for everyone before WE get a chance to take advantage of it.

Actually, it's so NHL to allow the richest teams in the league to abuse it for years and then suddenly have a problem when a small-market Canadian team tries to do it.

Cap circumvention twice. Kane golfed and did all sorts of things last summer, and then “decided” to get surgery right before training camp.

Completely staged and agreed on so the Oilers could get salary relief.

When the estimated timeline approaching for his return came up around Christmas, and the Oilers still wanted the cap relief, line him up to get knee surgery, as also likely agreed upon as a possibility in the fall. Easily probably could have had the surgery for the knee not long after the first surgery if he of the team really wanted him in the lineup. They didn’t, they wanted different help during the season and him as a playoff option.

He did make a bit of a fuss around having the knee surgery it seems, probably because it prevented him from enjoying Canucn in Feb, and or if he did come back after Christmas,,could’ve got some performance bonuses to further help those off the book debts he has with some dangerous people. But it was something he likely agreed may be a possibility back when he and the Oilers came up with this plan. And he dare not make too much of a racket given his San Jose departure dubious circumstances. He got paid all season not to play in the regular season.

Funny on the TSn article when they talked about cap circumvention rule being changed, example used was Tkachuk, when Kane, and the Oilers forcing Smith to retire a few years ago, are much more blatant examples.

But yes, like the lottery rule, the new CBA closes loopholes the Oilers used in desperation so it’s a moot point.

At least the other teams were somewhat tactful in not going to the well season after season. The Oilers simply took things too far. Smith not playing for the last year of his contract for reasons nobody really knows except that it was predetermined months in advance he would fail his physical and simply never played the rest of the season. Keith retiring to free up over $5million in cap space and conveniently being being immediately hired by the organization. The Oilers trying hard to trade Kane in the offseason and when no deal could be made he conveniently waited until September to have abdominal surgery and then knee surgery in January because why not? It's clear LTIR had become an annual method for the Oilers to free up salary cap space.
