It looks like they are purposely collecting species that parasitize humans. In the Alien universe bringing back actual aliens requires government clearance. They purposely infect employees, because it's much easier to bring back a sick person (who happens to contain an alien insdie them).
Burke outright says this in Aliens:
So, yes, they are purposely choosing dumb people and likely instructing them to do things that will increase the chances of the aliens getting loose and infecting people.
Given that you need clearance once the alien gets on Earth, but can do whatever you want with it until then, is a good way to encourage crew members and scientists to perform and accept all these haphazard experiments on board the ship too. They are purposely being put on ships that can't actually contain the Xenos, then told to do experiments on them, even though Wayland Yutani already knows everything a scientist, with zero pre-existing knowledge, is likely to gather from the experiments.
The plot of Aliens revolves around a colony of people being placed in cross proximity to the known location of Xeno eggs. In the first Alien, it isn't outright stated, but heavily hinted at that the Nostromo, which was full of rednecks, was purposely sent to the alien eggs, and the androids job was to retrieve a sample.
Huh. That makes sense in it's own grim way.
Is there a 'for why' though? What do these Corporations want to do with these things? Whats the Endgame with bringing very, very dangerous aliens to Earth?
In Prometheus it was "do everything you can to make sure these things dont get to Earth!"
Granted I watched that a long time ago.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

In Prometheus, David definitely had a mandate to bring the aliens back to Earth. The scientists they brought along were equally stupid to the ones in Alien: Earth. They did things like take off biocontainment suits and stick their faces into alien organisms.
The whole society in Alien is run by corporations. These corporations are run by a bunch megalomaniacs. Both the leaders of the corporations and the population itself seems to have become obsessed with prolonging life.
The corporations that rule are also involved in a constant state of cold war with each other, where they project military force across the galaxy to secure positions. A major new weapon would also lead to effective control over the "governments'" military forces. For example, the colonial marines in Aliens were a US government force, that was effectively working for Wayland Yutani, to the point that the WY could kill the marines to accomplish their commercial goals. If one of the corporations is supplying the marines with their ultimate weapon, they'd have them under total control.
The xenos are seen as perfect weapons and also have genetic manipulation properties that could extend or enhance life. So the corporations are all over them.
I do agree that the evil corporation thing is a bit hammy in this universe. It's always been like that. I've already complained about the "boy genius" being over the top.
Not episode 5 good, but still, incredible in its own right.
Those wasps, I'm like eff me when they did that. Yeeeeesh. And I like how they're implying that the eye thing is waaaaaay smarter and clever than it seems.
Those wasp bugs give me the creeps. What a nasty way to die. Not that being killed by a Xenomorph would be any better, but yea, lots of gross creepy crawlies in this series.
Would it be an Alien series without stupid people putting themselves in stupid situations to get killed?
Spoiler!
The Lost Boy. I mean you knew it was coming, but come on, dude. Slide the door open quick and drop the "food" in there (or maybe ask your boss). He opens the door and immediately turns his back to it
Knock-off Glen Powell. Maybe sound an alarm or something before entering the cage of a dangerous space entity that killed your friend
Wendy/Marcy whatever the hell she wants to call herself always looks like shes about to cry...didnt need a whole scene of her croaking at Xenomorphs or the ages-long BS back and forth between supposedly super-smart but actually astonishingly stupid machine and the Doctor that nobody cares about.
"You have to let me help you or something equally stupid..."
Other super-smart machine apparently doesnt know how to operate a door.
I really DGAF about random Indian boy's mommy or the rest of his family for that matter and I'm getting tired of the whining hearing about it. Dude...they turned you into an (ostensibly) super-smart robot monster that lives on a secret island with other monsters...mommy doesnt want to see you no more, she probably sold you in the first place.
But Wendy gets her family tho!!?!? Whaaaa....
And at the end of the day our group of plucky heroes have once again accomplished a grand total of absolutely nothing.

Yeah, it seemed very strange that hybrid wasn't aware that the fly creature fed on metal/electronics. You'd think that he's made of electronics and metal, they would have specifically alerted him of the danger. He seemed to be shocked when he looked down at the tray and saw that they were eating electronics.

Yet cant do anything about the apparently Adamantium grate over the air vent.

Characters seem to be taking actions in order to advance the plot, rather than doing things for actual reasons.
That said, I liked the episode. I'm rapidly coming around to the fewer the Lost Boys the better. Looking forward to seeing Nibbs' totally inevitable, and utterly predictable psychotic break. Going to be bloody af.
Speculation of plot twist - might want to avoid.
Spoiler!
I am wondering if Eye Midge has the ability to control electronics... ...and Kirsch? Feels like a lot of doors get left unlocked, containers not fully secure when Eye Midge is around... and what the hell is Kirsch playing at? He knows about the comms between Slightly and Morrow but is letting is proceed and now one of "his" kids is dead(?)

That one is fairly explainable....maybe it's made of a compound they can't eat. They can eat steel but not alluminium? I mean, it's not on par with the rest of their actions which are incredibly dumb, but you'd assume they would make the room resistant to Xenomorph acid blood or whatever those flies are spitting. They flies also might not be able to spit the acid on demand instantly as a weapon. They might need a few seconds to get the digestive juices going.
They're trying to explain it all by the hybrids being kids, and, therefore, more likely to do stupid things without thinking first. You've also got the added elements of various characters trying to sabotage things, including Kirsch and Morrow. Then you've got the various interests acting against each other, like Boy Genius, Hermit, the hybrids, and the scientists. Then all the aliens themselves being intelligent and creating distractions...
I would have liked it if they'd found a slightly more clever way of getting the flies out than just having the hybrid open the door though.

It felt to me like the door to the feeding door had been purposely sabotaged. You'd assume it wouldn't just break off on its own like that.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying this show, despite my criticism. I'd only change a few small things. I feel like they are beating us over the head with the crew stupidity at this point.

Another thing I don't get is why does Slightly even need the human host at this point. He's dragging a full grown adult through an air vent, with a facehugger attached to its face. He's not going to be able to get past security with that. Is it going to be a Weekend at Bernie's scenario, where he covers the guys face, tells people he's had too much to drink and puppets him around?
Why didn't Slightly just grab an egg and run away with it.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe there's some kind of bio scanner he needs to get through, that an egg would set off, but not a human with an embryo inside.
