I would guess that after the contract signing, the idea is Pachel/Parekh. That's mostly because I see a Bahl/Weegar pairing if Raz is traded.
Cheering for Grushnikov to land that last spot.

That's the point of why I listed all of them; the depth on this team is terrific.

Klapka and Pospisil have new deals as well I believe but they’re paid to be bottom 6 and Pospisil found himself at the bottom of the lineup a bunch and Klapka only managed to stay in the lineup the end of the season. Plenty to prove still.

What about Farabee? He had 6 points in 31 games.
Think we had to take him to get Frost.

The initial forward lines will probably look very similar to last year with the youngins (Stromgren, Honzek, Kerins, Morton, etc.) filling in for injuries again.
Defense feels like a crapshoot. The only prospects I think will make the jump to the NHL out of training camp are Parekh and one of Solovyov/Kuznetsov. Seeing as how Bahl-Andersson is the shutdown pairing, Weegar can play LD and is the only good vet available to pair with Parekh...
Huberdeau - Kadri - Coronato/Sharangovich/Pospisil
Zary - Frost - Coronato/Sharangovich
Farabee - Backlund - Coleman
Lomberg - Pospisil/Kirkland - Klapka/Kirkland
Bahl-Andersson
Weegar - Parekh
Solovyov/Kuznetsov - Pachal
Bean/Hanley

Larger body of work where he proved he could produce. And his ticket may make it tougher to bench him as well.

Wondering with so many relatively new faces if Conroy is waiting a while to see where the chips fall before trying to clean up the roster. Guess that generally happens every year.

There are just too many bodies on the team. I expect Conroy will make a couple of trades at some point shipping out a few bodies. I will echo what others have said - no way Sharangovich sits.
Klapka probably gets moved around in the lineup a lot. If he comes in and just plays consistently and manages to find success somewhere in the top 6 (which I actually expect him to do), Huska will have tough decisions to make on who plays where. Pospisil can very well 'bounce back' (I don't think he played poorly, but rather I think he was a bit snakebitten last year), it again makes for a good, but difficult problem to figure out. You can't leave them on the 4th line if they are producing. Just a lot of forwards this year that are NHL caliber, with a few more on the farm trying to push through a little.

Jake Bean was 1st for defensemen on the team in xGF% and 3rd in xGA60.
He isn't great distributing the puck, but he's vanilla steady in his own zone and great at pinching creating more offensive zone time.
Bean can and likely will be beat out, but the way people dump on a guy that was a pretty solid 6 last year is beyond me.

Yeah Sharangovich was a tale of two halfs.
2nd half he was 3rd on the team in points / 60 at five on five behind Klapka (small sample size) and Kadri (he was 2nd to Kadri in total points five on five in the last half of the season)

I don't mind Bean.... I just do not think he is worth losing out on our prospects for. Perhaps I am reading the situation wrong by not digging into his fancy stats but I would rather gamble on what Kuznetsov can do at the NHL level instead of preserving the last year of Bean's contract.
Also, people keep proposing that we go out and get other team's version of Kuznetsov in trades (young LHS defender selected in the 2nd round) but we have yet to see Kuznetsov play in the NHL.
With the current logjam of defenders, my priority would be to protect the guy with more potential.
Bahl-Weegar
Kuznetsov/Bean-Andersson
Hanley/Pachal-Parekh
Miromanov I am fine with sending to waivers.
Solovyov I would rather keep with the team. I thought him and Pachal looked good in their stint together.
The end state that I want for the D group this year is probably this:
Bahl-Weegar
Kuznetsov-Parekh
Solovyov-Pachal
X: Hanley, Bean
Until Andersson is traded though, the question becomes "who is most likely to pass through waivers?" or "who would you be least upset about losing to waivers?". I would be least upset if we lost Bean or Miromanov to waivers.

I think Solovyov clears for sure.
Kuznetzov is young enough that he may not.
Also interesting to consider if Kerins will clear. I think he would but it's far from certain.
I suspect Miromanov gets put on waivers, potentially to release him back to Europe or something.
Kuznetzov stays with the team.
So you have your regulars Weegar, Andersson, Bahl, Parekh.
And then a group of Pachal, Hanely, Bean, and Kuznetzov in the bottom 2 spots.
Carrying 8 doesn't seem bad.
Brz gets his opportunity when Ramsus is dealt eventually.

Really not to many questions imo
Huberdeau Kadri Coronato
Sharangovich Frost Farabee
Zary Backund Coleman
Pospisil Kirkland Klapka -
Lomberg somewhere
Seems inevitable those are the starting line ups. Any changes would be injuries or trades more than anything else.
Same with Defense. I'd be surprised if Bean and pachal didn't start on the 3rd

If I got to choose the lines at the beginning of the season it would be this:
Huberdeau - Kadri - Coronato
Coleman - Backlund - Sharangovich
Zary - Frost - Farabee
Lomberg - Popsisil - Klapka
Kirkland
Bahl - Andersson
Weegar - *Parekh
Hanley - Pachal
Wolf
Prosvetov
*With Parekh getting sheltered minutes and Hanley/Pachal get some shifts with Weegs too. Parekh given the PP2 to QB
It's been messaged a number of times that we are cluttered at forward with little room to add anybody. I do expect some trades either this season at the TDL or next offseason. I don't expect Farabee to last long if he doesn't get out of his funk. I've never seen such a snakebitten player. I expect better results from him.
I've also thought of the Flames going with a 4-line approach to start the game, then changing to the aforementioned lines when down a goal. The 4-line approach would be moving Backlund and Coleman down to the 4th line with Lomberg and moving Zary to center to give us a more balanced lineup. This lineup also makes sense if you don't prefer Pospisil as the 4C:
X - Kadri - X
X - Zary - X
X - Frost - X
X - Backlund - X
X's: Huberdeau, Sharangovich, Coronato, Coleman, Lomberg, Farabee, Pospisil, Klapka
My 4-line approach would ideally have 4 duos, and the other 4 wingers (the inferior ones) be slotted on a line.
Huberdeau - Kadri - Pospisil/Klapka
Sharangovich - Zary - Coronato
Farabee - Frost - Klapka/Pospisil
Lomberg - Backlund - Coleman

I think that Parekh starts with Hanley. Gives him a steady stay at home type of player and some veteran advice. Also a right/left pair.
Parekh gets power play 2 for starters.
Weegar-Pachal
Bahl-Andersson
Hanley- Parekh

Seems that many people agree with the reasoning behind why I started the thread. Both the defence and forward groups seem messy for various reasons.
It will be very interesting to see which players step up and how Conroy is going to work through it.
The “good problem to have” is we have young players that actually are pushing for spots and more coming. Hopefully long term result is a competitive team.
Fun stuff.

LMFAO, this is where you need to stop relying only on your numbers bingo. Bean was a damn trainwreck in his own zone and got caught pinching way too many times. Anyone else who watched the games think Jake Bean was steady in his own zone? Come on man, there is more to hockey than just statistics.

I keep seeing people posting a rerun of the Bahl-Andersson pairing. With all of the complaints about how his season was last year, and the desire to boost his numbers for a trade, I do not know why we would plan to do the same thing we did last season.
I think you need to start out with Bahl-Weegar and have them covering the toughest D assignments.
Besides, after the Andersson trade we are going to need Bahl-Weegar to cover those assignments anyway, so we may as well start them together.

It's also a scenario you see happen a lot.
A guy gets hurt in training camp and misses camp, tries to rush back, isn't quite 100% and it takes 40 games for him to find his stride.

For the final 15 games of last season the Bahl-Andersson pairing really started to gel.
As a pair they went:
Corsi For: 52.56%
xGF For: 52.33%
Average 5v5 TOI: 16:34
And they had incredibly bad luck at 5v5:
Bahl - Andersson on ice:
Shooting %: 3.23
Save %: 85.09
PDO: 0.883
Bahl - Andersson off ice:
Shooting %: 9.56
Save %: 92.35
PDO: 1.019
I think it is worthwhile to try them again assuming Andersson is still on the team. I'd run two groups and spot in Parekh until he gets comfortable or Andersson is moved:
Hanley - Weegar
Bahl - Andersson
Bean - Pachal
Weegar - Parekh
Bahl - Andersson
Hanley - Pachal
The forwards are a bit of a mess. I agree that Lomberg should be in the press box from a talent perspective, but with Andersson's trade status in the air I would understand if the coaches want him in there keeping the vibes light.
