Default 2025 Calgary Surge Thread

I see the Surge are off to a fantastic 3-1 start to their season. I have already purchased tickets for my family for the game vs. Scarborough on Father's Day, and would have gone to the Home Opener yesterday if not for the Cavalry FC match vs. Valour

Here are the highlights from the Surge Home Opener. Looks like Calgary kicked Winnipeg in the bum hard twice on Sunday!

Can someone explain the rule about how to win the game? You need to reach a point total before you opponent reaches it or something like that?

9. WHAT IS TARGET SCORE?

Target Score Explained:
The first time the game clock is stopped with 4:00 minutes or less in the 4th quarter of each game, timed play will end and a Target Score will be set, equal to the leading team's score plus nine (+9). EXAMPLE: At the stoppage, if the game's score is 77-71 then the Target Score after adding 9 points is 86
The first team to reach the Target Score wins the game
The shot clock will remain intact and used for the entire duration of the 4th quarter of the game as it normally would be
The Target Score will be displayed in plain sight on each end of the court and on the broadcast

Intent of Target Score:
Eliminate/reduce deliberate fouling by the trailing defense
Eliminate/reduce stalling by the leading offense
Eliminate/reduce rushed/sloppy possessions by the trailing offense
Provide greater hope for late comebacks
Provide more memorable game-ending moments
Eliminate late-game clock controversies and reviews

While I really like the Elam ending or "Target Score, it doesn't completely eliminate the late-game reviews. Those still seem to happen on fouls and scoring plays.

While I would say that the Surge are clearly the favourites to win the 2025 CEBL Championship, they are still a Calgary based team and those of us who have cheered on the Flames & Stampeders for decades know what that means...

Surge win and are in the Finals on Sunday! Was a dominant game until we struggled to put the game away in target time.

And they lost to Niagara again in the championship game.

What's with Calgary teams with excellent regular seasons always falling short in the end?

Happened to the Flames in the 90's.
Happened to the Cavalry FC in its entire existence until last year.
And now, it's happening with the Surge.

Not sure if it happened to the Stamps though....

Those '90s teams should have netted at least 2-3 more Grey Cups. And at least one more with prime Bo Levi

The only Calgary team that seems to win the title when given the opportunity is the Roughnecks! I believe they have 3 NLL titles and are 3-1 in the big game.
