I'm talking about general pain, suffering, and inconvenience. I understand that an injured party could go and get all the physio and massages they need (or whatever is required). But you know...there is also that ongoing issue of having to do that, not being able to do the things you like doing, and that is someone else's fault. You should be able to get some financial compensation in that case.

I know exactly what you are talking about.

But currently in Alberta your own medical benefits are only I think $50k (?) and can be accessed for only 2 years.

I am wondering if that amount has been increase and time the benefits are accessible has been extended.

BTW, I am with you, I am not a fan of no fault.

The other way to deal with that is to have an insurance company that is owned by the people (ie. the government) and ensures that you are fully covered in all aspects of your life that are impacted by the event.

If the coverage was complete then you would not need to sue anyone to make up the difference.

The government owned insurance company would have other advantages because they could regulate aspects of the impact. For example, if you break your arm in an accident and your employer decides to fire you because you cannot do your job, the government could pass a law saying that companies cannot fire someone while on injury leave. And the government would be motivated to ensure the company complies because otherwise you will end up on EI, which increases the burden on the government.

Cheap! 2 decent but non-luxury cars and a slightly more valuable than average priced house and we're paying $6000/yr.

Ya I think my wife pays 2400 or so for her car, bringing us to $7200. House around 800k and 2 vehicles around 45k & 25K. I'll update after I do some shopping around to see if I can get a better deal.

EDIT: Insurance premiums seems like something AI would be good at figuring out...

It hasn't even been a year since the last time the UCP started down this path.

Alberta is meant to get 2 new seats because of our population increase and there are 9 overpopulated ridings: 5 in Calgary, 3 in Edmonton and Airdrie-Cochrane.

So of course, the UCP proposes a bill to "removes the requirement for divisions to remain within municipal boundaries of Edmonton and Calgary meaning they could have both urban and rural portions. "

Now we get to see this bill come into action as they try and move the lines around and try to drown out urban votes with rural votes.

Maybe we need to get a referendum question put together to change the Province of Alberta to a proportional representation electoral system.

We could even say we are sticking it to the Libs because they keep promising to do this thing but never do it.

I can't believe I'm defending her here, but I can totally see the Premier of a province not being aware of every single procedural change. I tend to agree that with changes like these she probably did know, but there's enough ghouls in the UCP that I could see it being someone else moving this one along.

It depends on what you think of her leadership style. If you think she is the kind of leader that allows autonomy and delegate decision making to others and only ensures that the desired outcomes are being met... then sure.

However, I expect she is an insecure leader and a horrible micromanager that demands all decisions be run by her and that all minions provide her with regular updates so that she can maintain complete control. In which case, she was absolutely aware of this and made the decision to go ahead with it and likely thought no one would notice or care.

After the changes they made to FOIP, hiding expenses seems par for the course.
