Yeah player power is massive there, unfortunately for Newcastle I don't really see them having a lot of options, and to me the fee they are asking for is ludicrous, as good as he is, rejecting 110 million is absolutely crazy for a player who doesn't want to be there is insane and I think the player is probably not out to lunch by striking if he was told he'd move if a fair offer came in and they are turning that down. That feels like insane value for a player demanding to leave.

I agree with the comment that he was naive for not getting it in writing, but stuff like this damages the ability of clubs to sign players down the line unfortunately even if they are within their rights, it's not always about just whether or not the player has a release clause, has to be a reasonable negotiation between all parties as when players see someone who wants to leave being forced to stay, right or wrong it makes it harder to recruit.

Nothing official but sounds like Eze to Spurs is done for around 60 million total, and De Zerbi has had another couple player meltdowns with Jon Rowe and the Rat Rabiot now on the transfer list. Zero respect for that guy after what he did to Ismael Kone. Would guess one or two of them will end up in the prem as both good players on the pitch

actually looks like Arsenal is now hijacking the Eze deal after the Havertz injury.

If Garnacho had a brain, he'd push his agent for a switch to Tottenham now ... also London, also CL and he'd actually be able to play, whereas he'd just be one of around 57 players at Chelsea. But he immediately turned down Bayern Munichs approach yesterday, so I doubt that'll happen.

I have to disagree.

Release clauses are commonly used throughout professional football. it would have been reasonable to ask for one on a 6-year deal when Isak signed that contract.

For whatever reason Isak didn't do that.

So if he wants to leave after 3 years (really two years due to his injuries) then it has to work for Newcastle as well.

They spent 65million pounds and it is their duty to get a fair return.

In addition, the money has to be enough to find and sign a comparable replacement .

Like I fully get why Sancho keeps rejecting every move cause he'd have to take a massive pay cut to make any move, but what is Garnacho's deal? He's surely turning down pay increases and more playing time, WTF?

I don't disagree with you that the magpies have that right, I just don't see it benefitting them at all to make him sit the year out. They will lose him for less money next summer. The reality is even if you have a contract in place if the player agitates for a move enough and is willing to lose wages, you're pretty much powerless, they're employees not slaves. That said it definitely sucks from a fan perspective. Though I will also say that 110 million is more than a fair return in my books, you're getting the 3rd or 4th biggest transfer fee in history so I think they basically have to take it. And I think for all of us who are neutrals seeing the Saudis get kicked in the ribs is kinda nice, as much as I feel for the geordies themselves.

Also wow it is crazy what Arsenal just pulled, giving Spurs the double Vs and taking Eze from them at the absolute death. 6 mil will go to QPR but sounds like the fee is close to the 68 million release clause so Palace will get a badly needed injection of funds. Still, probably Palace's greatest ever player achievement wise as the FA Cup winning goal scorer and an absolutely fantastic personality so sad to see him go. I hope someone else does that to Liverpool with Guehi with them dickering around on the fee.

I’m not sure how this transfer was bottled? I mean it sounds like Eze wanted to go to Arsenal and there’s not much we could do about that. Maybe he just decided he’s won all the trophies he wants now?

Spurs had no chance there, once Arsenal came in to the fray. He is an Arsenal fan. Its not like the Petit situation back in the day, which was genuinely funny.

I wouldn't call it bottled either. Spurs should have locked in the move earlier but that's just via hindsight; they weren't expecting the competition from Arsenal.
Arsenal only came in after the Havertz injury.

Glad it played out this way though; I think Eze could be our best signing of the season. Not having to flow every attack through Saka changes everything.

I know he’s not flashy, but I like the Palhinha addition. We needed a decent DM, and while he’s a stop gap based on his age, I think he’s a good fit for what we needed.

I think we need a lot of help soon, and I’m not sure who sells too talent with 10 days to go in the window, but I would hope that Lange/Paratici/Levy are working on it. If we were to get Savinho (which wouldn’t be until next week, or at least after noon tomorrow so he can’t play against City), and at least a good 10, it’s not a complete disaster. I still wonder how we’ll fare now that Deki is out until January as well, but there’s only so many players they could bring in over a week and a half.
