Alex Vlasic there, but no Hutson is definitely the choice of all time

Hutson only makes sense if they need a PP quarterback, and guys like Fox and Hughes (and likely others) are ahead of him.

Vlasic plays a shut down role, and plays it very well. Hard to imagine he has much chance to make the team though.

Having said that, it's hard to imagine they couldn't fit Hutson into the initial group.

Also worth taking Hutson in case guys like Fox/Hughes etc get injured before the actual event. If he's not in the top 6 this year, good chance he is next time too.

Same reason I think Wolf deserved the 4th spot. Daccord ain't making it, why not take the young guy who could be a big part of USA hockey in the future

So, McDavid is the same height as Sam Bennett, and outweighs him by a pound. Who knew?

I’m assuming Matthew Tkachuk is not on team USA due to off-season surgery?

He's just not at the camp. He's one of the six players who have already made the final roster.

I don't think Hill was born here, actually. Played youth hockey here, though.

Fun fact: Logan Thompson is also from Calgary lol.

Yup, both Calgary Buffaloes alumni and brought the stanley cup together to Cardel in Shawnessy.

Crazy to me that Thompson is getting snubbed again

Whoops, fair point. Should have said "Calgarians / Edmontonians."

Was going to say "should be 5," but Thompson would likely just replace Hill which would still be four.

I think you are underrating Daccord somewhat, he's had decent stats behind a not great Kraken team.

But I'm guessing Wolf's size is still being held against him to some degree.

If you had a choose one who might be the future of US hockey, it's an easy choice. At least to us. Does this mean hockey executives think that Wolf has limited upside regarding star, elite status? Or is it more likely just stupid being stupid?

As a third goalie you'd think they'd go with one young guy. And a guy who played with team USA at the world juniors as well

I think if Wolf had gone instead of Daccord as the 4th goalie, he would still be on the outside looking in to grab that third spot.

Teams value experience, especially at the international level for goalies.

The number of goalies who have excelled at the world juniors who have failed at the NHL level is huge, so that pedigree likely gets you nowhere. Just look at the CAD goalies who have led their team to a gold medal. A long list of failed goalie prospects.

Wolf as an invite for the fourth goalie makes sense. Let the young guy into the room, but no real expectations that he will make it this time around. Hutson should be there, for the same reason.

Coronato is another Olympics away IMO.

I like the Wolf snub. It allows him to just focus on the Flames for his sophomore year and gives him a bit of chip to put on his shoulder while he does it.

Guys like him are used to having to prove they belong. It's helps drive them to be even better than they already are. The cool thing though is when they succeed it tends to resonate more with fans than when the bigger guys do it. Big guys are expected to be good. They're big. They have no excuse for not being good. Little guys aren't expected to be able to do anything. They don't even get the chance half the time, so when they do succeed people want to see them more than the boring big guys. TLDR: Wolf will kick enough ass that fans/media will eventually put him on the team, whether managemnt wants to or not.

Considering RNH was an invite, I'd say Kadri was a snub as well.

Weegar is a legit stud. He should be there.

He was the glue and the rock on the back end that allowed the Flames to push for playoffs. Not to mention mitigating Andersson's -38 season.

Thats insane. I'd have Kadri twice before present day RNH.

Actually I dont think Tenderness was ever better than Kadri. Maybe very early in their careers.
