Do you have any thoughts on Joel Maata? Former Oilers 7th rounder that they didn't sign. He led the University of Vermont in scoring, but I am not sure if that is impressive or not as in previous seasons he wasn't a huge producer. He is a center with decent size.

They've missed playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years and very likely could make it 5 of 6. They are well on their way, just without the elite prospect base to go along with it. But I get it, we're building a "winning culture."
The Flames have made it past the second round only once since 1989, and that was the Cinderella run. Fans haven't reaped much in the last 36 years so I'm not sure why you're so concerned about 9-18.

Not very familiar with this one either, but it looks like he's signed with TPS of the Finnish Liiga for this upcoming season.

Could you imagine this place if they did go scorched Earth rebuild? It wouldn't be fast enough, they'd draft the wrong guys, any free agent signing would be frowned upon, (wait, that happens now).
This is the direction that the team has chosen. Now we have to actually be patient and see how it works out, and we won't even start knowing that untilthe new building is ready.

Lol, 3 weeks of avoiding this thread, check up on it and it's still just Rhett trolling the same 10 people.
I am not sure who the bigger problem is here. The guy doing the trolling or the 10 people who feel the need to be right.

Sportsnet has article of teams they think could trade for Mctavish if he becomes available. Has Calgary on list. Only problem they use Anderson as part of the trade bait. Can’t see him signing long term with the Ducks.

I don't know, maybe he thinks they're building something special down there?

I can't say I agree.
I would say the very beginnings of a direction has been chosen, but we're far from a point of just sitting back and letting things unfold for 5 years and 'don't bother complaining'. There's still an extremely wide range of outcomes I would say from this point moving forward that a couple good drafts have not changed.
On one end of the spectrum our prospect depth prevails, with a couple prospects popping off and we're basically Dallas north. The other is our prospects don't materialize as hoped, our NHL vets that are currently driving the bus start declining to the point of diminishing trade returns/untradeable contracts, and the team plummets down the standings.
It's extremely rare that teams choose the scorched earth rebuild, rather it chooses them. Teams that are declining can only stave off a rebuild for so long.
So, anyone dunking on people about scorched earth being avoided are getting ahead of themselves. I don't think the Flames are out of the woods by any stretch despite some encouraging additions to their prospect pool.

I guess it depends on your definition of "choose". Many teams sell of their good assets and purposely field a team likely to be very low in the standings, when it becomes clear that their current core won't get it done.

Do you think Boston envisioned trading Marchand and selling at the deadline after adding Lindholm and Zadorov last offseason?
San Jose chose to rebuild 3 seasons after acquiring Karlsson?
Things can evolve and/or change fast in the NHL. Aspiring to be like Dallas is predicated on those picks we're so excited about actually hitting in the NHL. This is a nice vision to have, it's a convenient one for ownership because it means you're perennially competitive and your amateur scouting is routinely winning drafts.
Could we be Dallas? Sure. But we could also be San Jose.
As for fans, what we do makes no difference, but condemning people by saying 'this is the direction, quiet you' makes for a not so fun vibe around here. How things unfold is anyone's guess.

Yeah hard to see Rasmus signing in Anaheim after turning LA down.
Who knows though, maybe he sees Anaheim as a team on the upswing.
I wonder what type of package we could put together without him. It would hurt, but it's the type of swing we would have to make.
Atleast one (if not two) of our 2026 1st, Zary and Bruz would be going.
Put me in the camp that would overpay for a young Center like McTavish.

I look at this as accepting the direction you're headed vs choosing to be bad. Pittsburgh is a good example after staving this off for as long as they could.
