I thought Night Country was received well. How was it a waste? (spoiler free of course)
The payoff was ridiculous, IMO.

Justified is outstanding. An absolute cavalcade of Deadwood alumni make appearances.

Landman.. 1 star lol. Cardboard characters, misogynistic (I mean yeah oil and gas does have that vibe, but they missed the mark anyway). Terrible writing. Fubar 2 is more realistic and it's a comedy

Billy Bob gets 1 star, by default
Rest of everything at 0 stars? Agreed
The only thing I know about Landman is Billy Bob's diatribe on wind turbines. Many right wing family members sent that around... Which was subsequently debunked to high heaven by experts.

Wind turbines, like any energy source, certainly have their warts but...were your family members aware that this is just a TV show?
I mean, you've got a handful of posters on this board that rant apoplectically about 'sources' but...a TV drama? I dont think anyone could realistically make a case for the validity of that.
I think I'd give it more than a 1 but not by much. Billy Bob was good, Feore was good, I liked the 'right hand man' guy, but not much beyond that. The rest of the characters were just awful.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I'm sure Landman season 2 is going to be much worse. By the end of the series the military gets permission from Billy Bob to run exercises and intimidate the mexicans. Soon after they're dropping mortars on them (accidentally), which becomes a covert cleanup job. No big deal! Moral of the story, oil and gas is protecting the border from drug dealing coloured people. Yay.. lol. WTF billy bob

I dont think anyone should be pulling any story morals out of this show.
Now, I'm not the most well-versed in Oil and Gas Companies, I do understand that they are extremely powerful as they have a lot of money and influence, that being said, its always been my understanding that they're usually a bit more subtle about it?
I will say that one thing I liked was that Billy Bob consistently talks a big game about the power and supremacy of Oil Companies, etc, and then as soon as he's in private or trusted company he openly admits that he made all that #### up!

Its funny you mention that because I was just about to start a re-watch of 'Midnight Mass.' Now there was a good show!

Chief of War looks good on Apple. Episode 1 was interesting. Four Hawaiian kingdoms in conflict, and the arrival of white people. Very violent.
I have always been fascinated how the Polynesians navigated the vast Pacific, but that is not part of this story. How they bravely settled the Pacific is as remarkable as humans landing on the moon.
A slow-paced, fact-based period drama of war and love in precolonial Hawai’i, “Chief of War,” premiering Friday on Apple TV+, presents co-creator and star Jason Momoa as the late-18th century warrior Ka’iana in a story set at the intersection of the island kingdoms and the arrival of European colonists. It’s clearly a passion project, and like many passion projects, it can go overboard at times, grow overstuffed, not to say oversolemn — though solemnity, to be sure, is appropriate to the history. But the passion shows through, and the stuff is interesting — nothing you see everyday, for sure.
A comparison to “Shogun” is as good as inevitable, given the subtitled dialogue — most of the series is performed in Hawaiian — the encounters with outsiders, the ambitious monarchs and the warring factions. In the latter respects, the series also resembles “Game of Thrones,” where Momoa spent two seasons as chieftain Khal Drogo. And its opening might make you think of “The Lord of the Rings,” as a woman’s voice sets the story (a prophesied king will unite the endless, ending “a cycle of endless war”), introducing the island kingdoms of Kaua’i, Hawai’i, Maui and O’ahu, “separated by cunning chiefs and powerful gods.”
