Being Celiac is f-cking brutal. I can’t imagine never being able to enjoy a fresh focaccia or a fettuccine carbonara for the rest of my life.

It does suck ass. Adding in lactose intolerance makes going out for most things neigh impossible. And the beer...ugh. K, going back to bed, this day is getting too depressing already.

I am not referring to cooking methods or cuisines. People can make anything generally taste good but a lot of things just don't taste like they used to on their own, it's all being masked by sauces, spices. Good beef had good flavor! A great chicken was delicious when seasoned with salt/pepper/oregano/lemon and roasted. Now it's almost like you need to season the hell out of something to actually make it taste ok.

Kinda sad what has happened to our food system
Possibly you have long covid?

I figure I can stream/watch it on any other of the several Bell Media properties I have like TSN1,2,3,4,5 or Crave or HBO or even Prime. I literally can't find a concrete location where I know I can see this in the next few days.

Well, the doc is actually called “Clean Sheet” so it might help if you’re looking for the right thing.

Most people that claim to be gluten intolerant aren’t, never mind celiac disease.

For those people that actually are, they make products that are gluten free.

Meanwhile I’ve had more than one occasion where somebody confuses shrimp for chicken and I end up with an allergic reaction for three weeks.

Nope, loaded with gluten(it's a decent excuse when a food comes around you don't want).

I’m not talking about those health and wellness posers with “gluten intolerance”, I’m talking “f-ck up your weekend”, “pissing out your ass”, “stabbed in the abdomen from the inside-out” celiac.

My uncle has it and so did my ex-wife.

My girlfriend has a shellfish allergy and carries an EpiPen. She’s also able to have food that’s been in the same fryer as shrimp, cross-contamination isn’t a worry there like it is for a real celiac. The only thing an EpiPen does for a celiac is weigh down their purse. It isn’t a competition; both suck ass, but it is way easier to get glutened by accident, and there’s nothing you can do to mitigate it when it does happen.

Thats why restaurants truly need a 3rd bathroom.

The Apocalypse Bathroom.

"Sorry...someone got glutenized accidentally and they need the 'Apocalypse' bathroom, it self-incinerates when they're done."

For me it's pretty much exactly a 2 hour timed delay, I'm long gone from the restaurant. That's my first sign of pain, then in the next 30 minutes I better be near a toilet with a puke bucket for 24-36 hours.

I’m intolerant, but make exceptions for good bread and knowingly suffer the consequences. Enzyme capsules help.

I can’t imagine someone subjecting themselves to gluten-free bread if they didn’t have issues.

I still taste things and it's not all 100% bland but it's definitely the food and the way we produce/process things along with the soil & feed. Pay attention to the meats specifically, even higher end cuts. How much flavor does the meat actually have?

Home garden tomatoes, vegetables and leafy greens vs organic, in season ones from a store is another example.

A lot of our foods just don't taste like they used to or how they should and it has a lot to do with crop rotation, pesticides, herbicides, farming methods and a lot of other things too.

Our food system is kinda all interconnected with a lot of the other issues described above like the gluten issues, obesity and other health concerns too. I see it first had when I go overseas in Europe with friends and family the stark contrast food wise. I am also noticing how they are adapting to a more western style diet and habit's and how it's affecting quality and taste.

Apple Watch is so dumb. I guess I forgot to start a workout this morning, and worked out super hard. It barely registers. I really wonder about how good the tech is in these things.

It’s probably COVID, though you’re also describing early symptoms of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, and a general symptom of depression so a doctor’s visit is probably in order. Then again, it’s also a symptom of aging, but I think you’re like 40 so it shouldn’t be that pronounced.

Taste can change due to a number of self inflicted factors, including smoking, and a number of production factors, but those primarily all affect processed foods (exceptions being freezing some fresh foods and travel time, which can kill some veg).

A steak still tastes like a steak to me, a tomato like a tomato. But an avocado from the store here doesn’t taste as good as one bought from a farm near LA. Even then, it comes down to freshness, it’s not complex.

If you’re convinced it isn’t a medical issue and don’t want to go to the doctor, just buy higher quality meats and veg or lay off the processed stuff. I don’t think that’s necessary, though.
