I have seen some poorly executed public consultation in my day. This takes the cake as insidious and constructed with absolute malice and designed to only get an answer that they want to hear.
How the NDP is not holdin parallel, true open surveys and conversations right now is beyond me.
The way to beat this type of stuff isn't to take the high road anymore. Holding their own sessions just gives ammo to the UCP. It's to smartly but subtly ridicule them - this is one of the reasons I'm super excited about Nenshi. He can play that game that noone on the center or left wing play anymore.
Attendees at the first stop of Premier Danielle Smith’s travelling “Alberta Next” roadshow in Red Deer were overwhelmingly supportive of her series of proposals to enhance Alberta’s autonomy.
This is likely due to the fact that free tickets for the event were released to UCP members before the general public, a source who holds a UCP membership confirmed to the Progress Report.
Stacking the deck...the ucp way

The best way to understand what Albertans need is to talk to them. At their doors. In town halls. In community.
This summer, we’re doing just that: Listening, learning, and standing up for what matters.

Listening to CBC radio hearing them interview a bunch of attendees, it's incredibly depressing how poorly informed they are, and how vile it is to hear them drooling away at how much money they falsely believe(Because Smith and others have lied to them forever) we'll steal back from the rest of Canada.
The separatism is one thing. The absolute lack of humanity and how much greed is driving this is the saddest part to hear. People are just ####ing awful.
Premier Danielle Smith’s government is making changes to its online surveys about Alberta’s relationship with Ottawa, despite thousands having already filled out and submitted their opinions.
Smith says the old and new surveys will be combined, and says she doesn’t believe that will skew their findings.
The original surveys asked respondents to comment on topics such as a provincial pension plan and police force, but didn’t include an option to vote no on those proposals.
It’s not clear when the surveys were changed, but the reworked version gives respondents a chance to say no.
Shocked they actually changed from the push poll q's.
Oh and I lol'd at the assertation that changing the q's wouldnt affect the data. Unless they actually dont care what but the responses are...
Apparently for compiling data it is better to have a yes or no answers rather than a free form where people are saying mean things about her. Interesting development.

Why would they start caring about what Albertans think now? They have the same approach to governing as Trump does. What can I personally (and some of my friends) get out of this gig?
A report into a wildfire that devastated the Rocky Mountain resort town of Jasper says crews did their best but command and control was hampered by the Alberta government.
Quote:
It says the Alberta government, while not jurisdictionally responsible to lead the crisis, made things more difficult with regular requests for information and by seeking to exercise decision-making authority.
The report says the interference disrupted the focus of incident commanders and forced them to spend precious time managing inquiries and issues instead of fighting the fire and leading the re-entry of residents.

If we can unilaterally pull out of supply management we should. That wouldn't affect imports/exports obviously, but it would have some significant benefits. Even if you assume all the other provinces would stop taking Alberta milk/egg products we would be better off. The industry would immediately grow larger, because right now we have less % of quota than our % of population, because it's based on market share from half a century ago not current operating costs. And when prices go down as a result of that capital efficient growth that would put huge pressure on the rest of Canada to modernize.
Latest loonie idea from Danielle Smith: Alberta could reduce immigration by offering tax discounts to motivate women to have more babies. She got the idea from a policy of Hungary fellow fascist leader Viktor Orban. She floated the idea at a town hall meeting Wednesday in Sherwood Park.
Gut health care and education and offer a tax benefit that would mostly benefit wealthier taxpayers, who don’t really need the money.
If that's not a thinly veiled racist message, I don't know what is. "Have more Alberta babies to prevent immigration" reads like nothing more than a wholesale buying into the "white nationalist far-right conspiracy" of the great replacement theory.
She should be thrown from office for this. Reporters should hold her over the coals until she bursts into flames. But no, she'll probably win another ####ing election in this province.
This crap that she and her cronies keep spewing is just a little too Project 2025-ish for my liking. Scary times in Alberta right now. Voters in that province need to wake the f*** up.

If I'm not mistaken, Alberta Is Calling is still active in Ontario. It wasn't long ago that the official policy of the UCP was to make Alberta the immigration destination, so that she could use the size of the province as a hammer for more concessions from Ottawa.
So, she discovered that Albertans are upset that the growth of the province was done without any thought or accommodation for having that many people just show up, and in the media is now against immigration. But all of the policy and advertising for immigration is still in place, and going strong.
