That's pretty much been my read on him as well. I was always surprised at his mobility especially with his size, but he always kind of just aimlessly floated around not really doing anything when I watched him.

It’s too bad - “Joni Jurmo” is a great hockey name - I can hear Bob Cole saying it in my head. Both names, most of the time, a la Joe Juneau.

Also frees up a spot (roster as well as contract) for Axel Hurtig, who by all accounts had a fantastic year with the Hitmen and is probably close to turning pro.

He's training here in the off-season and seems to determined.

They hold his rights for two more years, zero reason to give him an NHL ELC. Turned 20 last month, staying in the WHL as an overaged player is the safer bet. Not sure if the Hitmen want one player taking up an overage and euro spot however.

The dude is a 6-5 LD, and should be a developed version of guys we recently drafted (Jamieson, Hurtig, Philips).

The org qualified Poirier and cut Jurmo loose. Can't keep all of Jurmo/Poirier/Morin/Solovyov/Kuznetsov on the Wranglers (even assuming one of them is a 7D in the NHL this year).
They need to start trading some of the young D if they aren’t going to give them a shot. A few of them can play in the show. Might as well try and get something for them.

We need centers. There must be a team with too many centers that is light on D

He rated #21 in the CP Poll last year. Either his stock fell a lot this past year, or CP doesn't know as much as we think we do.

Or both.

21 is pretty deep down in the prospect pool, and the Flames just added like 10 more prospects in the last 5 months with the draft and college ufa signings.

First off we don't.

But secondly 21 isn't a glowing prospect position, and aren't we pretty much betting on single attributes at that point anyway?

Every team will have flux from 15-30 in prospect depth every year.

Guys we had behind him last year ...

22. Sergeev, Arseni 22% -10
23. Zarubin, Kirill Run Off NA
24. Morton, Same Run Off NA
25. Kerins, Rory 26% -9
26. Bell, Parker 35% -8
27. Schwindt, Cole 40% -13
28. Hoskin, Trevor Run Off Tie NA
28. Hurtig, Axel Run Off Tie -3
30. Yegorov, Yegor 46% -8
31. Ciona, Luca 41% -17
32. Ignatjew, W Run Off NA
33. Jamieson, Eric Run Off NA
34. Laing, Hunter 55% NA
35. Okhotiuk, N 55% NA
36. Littler, Cade 46% -10
37. Nikolayev, Ilya 70% -13
38. Chechelev, Daniil 76% -9

I'd say Kerins, Sergeev, Ciona and Jamieson made moves?

27th ranked Cole Schwindt played 42 games in the NHL. Kind of irrelevant since he's gone from our list but I'd say he made a bit of a move.

Okay, but last year Jurmo had just signed and there was some hope for a former 3rd rounder. Now he's spent a year here, mostly in the ECHL, while looking like not much, so if he wasn't terminating, he would have probably dropped quite a bit.

A year can change a lot of things.

He was already playing a fair bit in the ECHL, even less Ice time for him with Brz and Morin this year. Guess this is why they drafted Phillips
