I switched from the APega TD crap a year ago to the personal. The home insurance wasn’t much cheaper but auto was wayyyy cheaper. Already had a claim with flooded basement due to crappy plumbing. Wasn’t perfect but good enough.
Switch. TD is ######ed.

TD insurance almost seems like they are hell bent on pricing themselves out of the market. I had used them for over 20 years but their pricing right now is just out of control. Why would anyone actively shopping around for insurance even consider them?

I just moved my home from TD to Wawanesa as they offered the best coverage. I am saving several thousand a year with lower deductibles and better coverage than what TD was 'offering' in my renewal. Eff TD.

It was easily a couple grand more less to Personal. Also had a few years of claims with TD with stolen bikes and hail damage so they can lick bag.

TD also has arguably the worst website on the planet. It should be a warning to stay away from them.
Any insurers offer bundle packages or is ala carte from multiple companies better? I

Someone in an office in Toronto has decided they're going to 2x their prices. They might make more money as that'll probably at least 5x their profits on the people who don't switch, but the business will certainly be a lot smaller. There will be some people who are on autopay and just keep paying, but they will certainly lose most people.

My insurance doubled this year with TD. I called Inova (Costco Broker) and they got me insurance for $300 less then I paid the year before. Almost a $1500 savings.
Call around. It took me an hour on the phone to get it all sorted out. Unless you make 1500/hr it's definitely worth your time to make a couple calls.
TD sucks. 19 years Auto with them and 8 years house without a claim and they wouldn't budget at all.

Most offer bundle discounts, but I've still found it cheaper to go different ways for home and auto on occasion.

This was my experience with auto with Personal as well. Huge difference. Moved on from a broker who wasn't really a broker anymore. Asked one of lower level people in the branch why I was switching from Aviva to Intact and could I see the quote from Aviva since Intact was way more. Response was "We don't have a contract with Aviva anymore". I was gone. Auto insurance was close to half off and house was probably 20 percent less. Calculated it out and it was almost $2500 a year difference.

They need a broker service for subscription services like Shaw/Rogers.
Someone to make that annual threat to cancel call and the whole rigamarole.
I still remember when I stiffed a mortgage broker I had forgotten to call after I was closing. Why did you go with Royal? Because I phoned them and got a way better rate than you did through your "network". F off slunt. I'm not phoning you as a courtesy because you are stealing from me.

I am also with TD, after getting some quotes and calling to discuss options I ended up with a less than 1% increase this year. Was worth not moving providers.

Any recommendations on a broker?

They are trying to reduce Insurance exposure on their books. Rather than just drop people they are jacking up rates so that a large portion of people just leave and the ones that stay are paying much more attractive rates for them. For the time being they are not interested in being competitive.

Why climate change will drive home insurance hikes in 2025: Be prepared
https://rates.ca/resources/climate-c...home-insurance
Quote:
These extreme weather events left insurers grappling with unprecedented losses. Alberta was hit particularly hard, recording $4.1 billion in damages in 2024 alone.
According to Max Dugan-Knight, a climate data scientist at Deep Sky, a Canadian carbon removal company, wildfire risk has shot up in large swathes of Canada and extreme rainfall is becoming more frequent, leading to more flooding and devastating property damage.
Climate models project that by the end of the century, an extreme rainfall event that now occurs once every 20 years in Canada could happen every five years, and the amount of 24-hour extreme precipitation that occurs once in 20 years, on average, is projected to increase by 12%.

Paying more for less is an interesting business strategy.
My Mother in Law got her renewal and all exteriors damages are now depreciated.

Just tried The Personal and they won't do houses over 100 years old.
