Flames biggest issue is still lack of elite talent. Don't give up anything that has potential to be a high first round draft pick.

If it is used in a package to get a McTavish level talent though? 100% I'm moving the pick

TBH I don't think you even had to be an insider to really question that an offer sheet would have truly been put forward by the Flames for Byram.
Did they chat contract with his camp...I'm sure they have as it's allowed since he's RFA.
Are they comfortable with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as the cost...I'd believe that too.
Would they ever do an offer sheet which would mean that's their own un-protected 1st being moved...no chance.

That's the scary part. Vegas pick is unprotected as well, and this team is no position to be trading any picks our or anyone else.
You sat by and watched Treliving waste pick after pick and show zero patience. Don't repeat the same mistakes.

A serious questions - could Calgary put conditions on the Vegas pick in a trade? That's what happened with the Montreal trade for Monahan. So, would people be okay if Calgary traded the Vegas pick but on the condition that it was lottery protected (obviously, some other type of compensation would have to come if it was a lottery pick)?

100%
All the deal has to say is, the trade is for the lower of the 2 picks. Highly unlikely both picks are in the lottery AND both win.

A Flames 1st would have been in play in the rumoured trade proposals involving Miller and Byram. Not just offers sheets.

Why? Because they want it? So what? Why would you assume that the Flames were dangling that at all? We’re a ####ing lottery team. This is stupid.

If you trade that pick, then VGS misses the playoffs, then win the lottery, it's a firable offense for all involved. I would much rather they remain patient.

I had some hope that could happen.
Marner signing there ended that for me.
But you do never know and weirder things have happened.

That was odd to me, Dean Molberg hasn't had a scoop since leaving fan 960, and as far as I can tell doesn't really care about any of this, he's just there to move conversation forward and getting the insiders to reveal what they know, not reveal insider info himself.

I can easily see the wheels come off for vgk next year. Marner is a huge sharp. The d-core is alot weaker then it was without pietrangelo and hague.

Although I’m not certain about a Byram deal, I think it’s OK to move the Vegas pick. The “anything can happen” likely amounts to less than 1% chance that the Vegas pick turns into #1 overall. That risk can be weighed and considered by the Flames when moving the pick, but I’m not sure it’s wise to cling to an unprotected pick just because there is a minuscule chance of it becoming McKenna. On the other side of the risk is that the pick would has more value as a trade chip and bring back more assets 99% of the time.

To be fair, I would think he has more insider sources than the average user on a message board. He does talk to Rhett, who is in contact with Iginla and Conroy weekly. They also talk a lot to Insiders like Seravalli and Dreger.
I don't know if that post really proves anything. Why would Conroy come out and say he tried to offer sheet someone but they wanted too much money. There is no advantage to being transparent about that, and could hurt connections going forward around the league if he straight out announces that he thinks a player wants too much money.

Regardless of where the pick ends up, I'd prefer to keep it.
The scouting stuff has been rolling in recent years, give them as much ammunition as possible.

Agreed, plus it gives the team way more options with multiple picks in the 1st.

The media are used for leverage.
Flames/Blues/whoever saying they are considering an offer sheet more than likely made Buffalo file for salary arbitration for Byram. This puts pressure and a deadline on dealing him. Now Buffalo has to cave on their price or sign a player who doesn’t want to be there.
