Maybe a likely why they took Carolina getting Morrow. Based on the video they posted the 2nd pushed it over.
Still we should be in pick surpluses not reckless and spending on a 2nd pair defender.
Just glad there are likely being saved from themselves again.

If the Flames were even considering offer sheeting Byram to the tune of it costing them their own 20261st+, it doesn't make sense to me that the Sabres would take him to arbitration and eliminate that from possibly happening. Even if it were unlikely to happen, I think the offer sheet compensation from most other teams would benefit Buffalo greatly.
Frankly, the more I think about it, the less it makes sense that Buffalo would take him to arbitration at all.

It is really hard to believe we would even consider this.
But if Boomer is putting it out there, I trust his sources way more than almost anyone else. Scary if true.

I like Boomer, but he's never broke any trades or signings, don't believe everything you hear or read. So you can get out from the blanket cause it's really not that scary.

Oh I’m not discounting his rumour, a Flames offer sheet of anything north of 7M a season would have to include a 1st.
But I was told point blank they never sent any offer sheet and that the flames preference was a trade + extension but they couldn’t agree to AAV (weren’t going to pay 9M a season)
And yea I trust my intel

100%. I could believe an offer sheet that maxed out at a second round pick and that’s why Byram didn’t bite.

That’s why a deal with the Flames won’t get done and offer sheet wouldn’t have worked either since he apparently wants a ridiculous AAV.

For the player, signing an offer sheet doesn't make sense if he really wants out of Buffalo as rumoured. If he signs a long-term offer sheet, suddenly the Sabres match and he has a long-term contract to stay in Buffalo for the better part of a decade.

From the sounds of it he doesn’t care for a trade just wants to get paid.

If Byram wants 9 million AAV it's pretty obvious why he's not been traded yet. Teams won't trade for him without talking numbers on an extension and that is a ridiculous price tag for him. Too bad, because he'd fit here like a glove IMO at 6-7 million AAV

40+ point is far from a certainty.
To Philly, he was certainly a cap dump.

I mean the Flyers used that money to sign Dvorak for 5.4 million bucks, not sure I would take their player evaluation skills very seriously.
Nonetheless, with the exception of last season Farabee has been a 40 point a year player in the NHL.

A couple things:
- I think if there is anything to this, Pinder had it right. The Flames, at some point in the trade negotiations, could have threatened an offer sheet to try and motivate a better deal, including knowing picks aren't really what the Flames are after. "Well maybe we'll just offer sheet it".
- Remember most leaks to the media come from agents.

Also, if an offer sheet was threatened, Buffalo filed for arbitration, so that threat is dead.

I mean your version makes way more sense. I do think the guys on Barn Burner have a lot more insider sources they can reach out to than some people on here are giving them credit for though.
Obviously Boomer and Pinder would have some contacts in the Flames organization still. Rhett still talks to Iginla and Conroy regularly, and has lots of contacts in Buffalo as well.
I have also seen Boomer turn down dumb rumors before on the show, so I'm definitely interested if they bring this up again. It is an interesting rumor.
