In totally unsurprising news...

Kurek, the Alberta MP who stepped down to allow Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to run in his riding has a new job with a government relations and lobbying firm.
On Friday, Upstream Strategy Group announced Kurek as its newest principal, calling the former MP a “seasoned legislator” and a “tireless advocate” for Alberta.

It's probably just the crappy federal plan, and not the glorious APP.

The Libs can't wait for pouty Pierre to be back in the commons. Can't believe the Cons still want him as leader.

I think that Doug Ford is here for the Stampede, and really the only reason is that not all of the Conservatives want to keep Pierre. You blow a 26 point lead in the polls and lose your seat, and you have to think the knives are out.

Not only that the Cons are trailing by 14 points right now. 40 point swing. lol

Nanos Research’s latest numbers show the Liberals leading the Conservatives 45 to 31 per cent, and Prime Minister Mark Carney ahead of Poilievre in the preferred PM ranking at 53 to 23 per cent. In Nanos’ first post-election poll on May 2, Carney was leading Poilievre by only six points.

I for one am absolutely shocked that he hasn’t magically flipped his likability while remaining the exact same as before the election…

As soon as Ford called for the early provincial election I assumed the reason was so that his term would end right before the next federal election where he would look to take over as leader of the CPC.

No. It was because playing against Trumps crazy is the best card he has. That’s why.

Long term that wouldn’t help with what I think his intentions were too?

I think most conservatives assumed that without Trudeau as his punching bag the opinions of Pierre amongst Canadians who just wanted change would have quickly soured had he became Prime Minister. I doubt he would have been party leader by the next election. Kinda similar to what happened with Trudeau during his tenure as PM but I don’t think the CPC would wait as long as the liberals did to act on it.

I just think people underestimate how made Ford has it in Ontario… all his cronies are here, he’s basically untouchable. He’s living the absolute dream, holding fundraisers and palm greasing events under the guise of his kids marriages, etc… he just scrapped the science centre for development, and Ontario place for a spa… he’s making ABSOLUTE BANK here.

I don’t understand a reason he would leave his gravy boat.

And I would guess he only has his inadequate CPP to claim as income.
I don’t know him personally but that’s what I would do if I had his money.

Maybe defund the CBC has some merit to it after all.

Quote:
A national CBC host announced his resignation from the public broadcaster Monday in a letter alleging he could not continue to work there “with integrity.”

“After years of service — most recently as the host of Canada Tonight: With Travis Dhanraj — I have been systematically sidelined, retaliated against, and denied the editorial access and institutional support necessary to fulfill my public service role.”

But, according to Dhanraj, “what happens behind the scenes at CBC too often contradicts what’s shown to the public.”

He accused the public broadcaster of “performative diversity, tokenism, a system designed to elevate certain voices and diminish others.”

Dhanraj’s lawyer, Kathryn Marshall, said Monday that the CBC didn’t want him booking “Conservative voices” on his show.

the CBC article on this:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/travi...-cbc-1.7579141

I obviously can't speak to the allegations about his treatment, but I believe his claims of " issues related to lack of diversity of opinion and editorial independence"

Good. Why should anyone be booking conservative, libertarian, marxist or other ideological views on a public broadcaster. They should be booking people that are experts in their field, rather than political propagandists. If the US media has taught us anything, it's that you don't get to a nuanced, pragmatic position by giving voice to extreme views from any dishonest actor.

The reddit thread on this has poked a ton of holes in his story already, but it’s especially notable that his lawyer is the spouse of Rebel’s Hamish Marshall, who has plenty of ties with the far right herself.

Sounds like a healthy helping of red meat for the mindless far right whose only take on any CBC matter is “defund CBC!!!” as a little bit of drool dribbles out.
