The thing I think is most alarming about this is what it means for future elections. What happens if the administration wants to use ICE to control voting? ("If?" of course they're going to try this.) Who's going to stop ICE from showing up at heavily democratic polling stations and start pulling people out of lineups and into unmarked vans, essentially shutting down polling stations by turning them into tense standoffs or violent conflicts? Or entering polling stations, arresting workers, confiscating and destroying boxes of ballots that they claim are tainted with fraudulent votes?

The process may be too tainted now for the pendulum to even matter.

Yeah I hate to be a doomsayer but I think we’re cooked. By then they’ll probably have enough ICE to do the job.

Of course I hope he keels over before then, and it would be interesting to see what difference it would make.

I was hoping that most of the guardrails would at least hold until the mid-terms. But the breakneck speed at which this administration is destroying the country likely means that there won’t even be elections by then. And if there are, it’ll be sham elections that are completely rigged in the GOP’s favour.

Trump dying would make very little difference at this point imo. He's enabled people to be proud of the terrible way they want to treat others. No putting that back in the box, I don't think.

Yeah, he’s not even the architect of all this. We’ve got Vought, Pizzagate Posobiec (thinks anyone left of center is a bloodthirsty Commie who must be eliminated) , Vance who endorsed Posobiec’s book “Unhumans”, and a whole slew of people who think empathy is bad.

You're forgetting Stephen Miller (he's the true architect of the brownshirts) and Peter Thiel, who I'm pretty sure is a vampire. He talks about eugenics and "human transformation" like a literal vampire, and every time he's interviewed it's like he becomes a sweaty hotdog.

I remember saying this in 2019 or so - The Republic has fallen. America will not recover from this naturally. There is no legislating back from this, it's only going to be violence that ends this regime.

It's a cult of personality, the personality being gone the cult goes away. Not suggesting everything will instantly revert back to "normal" but Trump dying would make a huge difference. They'll be contenders vying for his piss throne; JD Vance, Musk, his ugly son who's always doing coke or the really ugly one, Marco Rubio etc but none have the bizarre hold on voters like Donald Trump does.

for our self respect we prefer to think it is the fault of the 'dear leader', that ordinary people like us would never chose that pathway, the truth is there was nothing special about Hitler Mao or Stalin or the morons that put them in power, we are a peer ranked violent xenophobic species, we frankly love being led into brutalising some minority, it takes incredibly little for us to willingly go down that path
