However, I am skeptical that this gets done unless Conroy shifts his stance which hasn't been the case for the last 3-4 months. Maybe it has now? Flames and Sabres have been talking Byram for a long, long time.
What was his stance?

I can’t see flames trading Zary for Byram. Rumours were they wouldn’t trade him for cozens when the opportunity came along.

Agreed not much if any decline having Parekh in over the guy that doesn’t want to be here and Vegas instead with his bff.

I also would not trade for Bryan or other D.
Let the farm guys actually develop here in the nhl. Respectfully the various vets over the years haven’t helped Calgary Flames any. Could there be bumps while the younger guys develop- absolutely! But I think there is more upside

All conjecture.

Flames are probably threatening an offer sheet at $9.36 mill knowing Buffalo isn’t interested to pay Byram that much.

Sabres also know that the Flames will not actually send the offersheet since they won’t send their own first, they also know the Flames don’t actually want to pay Byram that much.

So what it will end up being is the Flames and Sabres coming together on a package that has the value of the offer sheet compensation (1st, 2nd 3rd) but doesn’t include the downside of an unprotected first. Since Buffalo value players and the Flames value futures there could be some way to get this done.

Then Flames would sign Byram long term around 6 or 7 ish.

But if it also helps resolve the Andersson situation (perhaps in a 3-way) then it may make more sense, especially with the age groupings involved.

Zary wasn't available, which is why we missed out on Cozens.

It would be frustrating if he is now available and we get a LD instead of a C...

I am not the biggest Byram fan but if you can get him for a decent price (not offer sheet) and then sign Orlov to a one year deal with the plan to trade him at the deadline and move Rasmus for any type of futures package that would be tidy work by Conroy.

Weegar, Parekh, Byram and Bahl are a decent top 4 to build around for the next 5-6 years.

We are incredibly thin at center and have nothing of significance in our pipeline. Trading a young center (Zary) for a defenceman is crazy, unless we're somehow getting another younger center in a separate deal.

They also just might not like Cozens. He looked good at the start of the season and then faded

Buffalo would take Calgary’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd in an instant.

Calgary would be idiotic to make that move.

I don’t know what people see in Bryan that makes him such a desirable player to have for the acquisition costs being thrown around. There have also been rumours about him having a poor attitude and the fact he has already been traded once and is looking to move on again quickly from his new team is a big red flag for me.

Just to play devils advocate, who wouldn’t ask for a trade from Buffalo

Reschny is not so overwhelmingly consequential a piece to justify moving Zary. He's certainly good, but I'd MUCH rather have both those guys instead of just one of them.

Yeah moving Zary for Byram makes you no better.

If you can get Byram for a package of smaller pieces then that's the move but a player of similar age or skill doesn't feel beneficial

I am not interested in moving Zary for a Dman.

One of Frost/Farabee/Sharangovich are the middle 6 forwards I would have on the table for Byram along with some mid prospects but not much else.

Sorry guys, long hospital day so I've been out of the loop since early this morning.

I've got nothing firm on this one, but I know Calgary is very close on this.
Here's what I know Buffalo has kept an eye on from Calgary.

Rasmus - Obviously, but he's already said he wont extend there.
Pospisil - They really love his size and snarl and the fact he can play up and down the lineup.
Zary - Lots of teams are curious what Calgary is doing with Zary/Frost
Mews - Buffalo apparently had him quite high on their draft list, could see him used as a D for D swap + a roster player
