If Vegas doesn't have enough to offer then the Flames should just hold onto him until the trade deadline next season as he should fetch a decent return even as a pure rental.

Here is the issue, how does he know Vegas wants him. Did he or his agent talk to Vegas already? Did Vegas let his agent know they wanted him to come. That is collusion with a player under contract. The difference between him and Marner is that Marner's contract expires tomorrow, probably still collusion but expiring contract vs a contract in place.

It's entirely possible there wasn't any kind of tampering, and neither Andersson nor his agent has had any talks with Vegas. It would be rich if he did end up there and they said, ‘Oh, by the way, now that we've committed all that money to Marner, the most we can offer you is $5 million a year. Sign here, please.’
The point is, he can't know what sort of offer they are even in a position to make, because it changes from day to day and nothing is binding until both parties sign.

I'd bet dollars to donuts he knows exactly what Vegas is willing to sign him for. Hence the hardball he is playing.

But Rasmus was thinking of staying. And his ask was too high for the Flames.
That doesn't scream a player forcing his way out. It was reported just a week ago on here that he could still re sign with us. I don't really see it was the same situation as Hanifin at all.
You can't force an upcoming free agent to sign with a team. If he chooses to test free agency unless Vegas is the one who takes him, that is his choice. Maybe he has family in Vegas. Maybe he has friends there. Maybe the only other contenders don't have cap space for him.

This really falls on management who should be facing the backlash. They sat on an asset and let him dictate a trade and his future. If you moved Markstrom you should have moved Andersson as well.
|
They moved Markstrom because they had a replacement for him. They kept Andersson because they did not. And the Flames correctly have rejected the burn it to the ground and suck for 8-10 years and hope it works out approach. So trading all their good players without players in the pipeline to possibly replace them was never going to be the option they were going to take.

It was reported they aren’t even close and he wants a new start by LeBrun and Friedman. More reports that he had significant interest on the market.
His change in stance is interesting. Something new or just Vegas.

I wouldn't say "correctly" rejected the burn it to the down approach. That is still to be determined long term.

Has he changed his stance?
He said he wanted to play for a contender. He never said I am willing to sign long term with teams and help the Flames. If I was a player, I would be looking out for myself first. And I don't blame him for wanting to test free agency.

A lot of Flames fans thought last summer or deadline was the best time to trade Rasmus. After seeing how Hanifin turned his 8 team no trade list essentially to a full NMC it appears Conroy has potentially made that same mistake with Andersson.
Will he make this mistake again with Coleman?
I am interested to see how he navigates this Andersson trade. I hope he is dealt tomorrow

Something changed or they didn’t properly get a list of teams. Why engage LA if he wasn’t going to extend.
He has basically turned a 6 team no trade list to a 30 team no trade list. It’s not like we asked him to waive for Buffalo.

The player is under no obligation to give a list of teams he's willing to extend with. All he is required to do is give the list of teams he can't be traded to.

But he didn't say no to joining the Kings. He said no to talking extension before playing for the team and as a condition on the trade.
It is a pretty big decision signing somewhere for 8 years. I would want to play a bit with the team before making the decision myself.

What’s the difference between signing in July 1st or extending now.
Most of these trade offers seem to be contingent on him signing.
It’s his choice, but it seemed like he was more open earlier last week by reports.

To all the people who are pissed at Ras, I ask you...
Did both Ras and the Flames agree to this contract?
Are either of them not fulfilling their commitment?
Why does Ras have to extend if he wants to go to UFA?
Can he not choose what he does with his next contract?
In what way is this personal?

They didn’t have toOr stupidly trying to do what hadn’t worked for others and accidentally burning it to the ground by letting players dictate everything and get crappy returns.

No one is pissed off with Ras, who has said they are? People are just annoyed that the lessons don't seem to have been learned by the org. No one has the pitchforks out. The "everything is rosy" camp can calm down also.

Yeah it’s a bad situation. How CC resolves it will be telling.
Right now it looks like a grease pig level #### show. As was the Marky situation.
CC needs to learn from this and be more ruthless when he has better cards. Maybe?

While I respect Andersson's right to re-sign with whichever team he wants, I'll admit his legacy will be tarnished somewhat in my eyes if he is limiting it to a single team.
