Lol these guys are all the same. Always Vegas or a Florida team. I don’t knock him for wanting to choose his destination but also would prefer the Flames to tell him to #### off and send him to Minnesota

It makes sense that the Flames believe they should get more in a trade if Andersson is signed to an extension as part of it (he’s got one more year on his deal). But Andersson appears to be a little picky in where he would sign, which is obviously his right, as he would be forgoing a chance at unrestricted free agency 12 months from now.
Right now, it sounds like it’s pretty much Vegas for him.
My understanding is that the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings were among the teams with trade interest, but Andersson wasn’t ready to talk extension with those teams, so a trade didn’t materialize"

I'd like to think this is the last time the Flames get backed into a corner like this with a player only wanting to sign with one or two teams.
It doesn't help that we know Vegas is ruthless and would probably be happy enough to bring Andersson in without an extension and then sign him next summer anyway.
Tkachuk, Hanifin, Andersson, yes all unique in their own way but still strikingly similar when it comes to restricting trade options.
If Conroy can pull a rabbit out of the hat with this Andersson trade I would love to see it. I still have faith. But I would also love to see the Flames trade an asset at peak value and get ahead of the market sometime, just once, I don't know.. just to spice things up a bit. Keep it interesting.

Insta-firing, IMO.

This will be a good test to gauge Conroy. He has made some really solid moves, he also got played a bit by Vegas with the Hanifin deal. I would prefer he shows some backbone here, make Vegas pay out the nose in futures or take the best rental offer and cut their losses. At least with the latter you have shown the Flames will not be a pushover, especially with a team that is in their division. None of this takes into account that the Flames want Vegas to be bad next year which is another added incentive to not trade him there.

Vegas is clearly leaking this to reduce the price. They will likely pay a rental price and then sign him to an extension later. So, unless their price is considerably more, it's time to trade him for the best price elsewhere. It is time to send a message; otherwise, it will be more of the same in the future.

Like any place, when you are considering living there, the cost of real estate is part of the decision. Just because you can afford it, doesn't mean you are keen on paying it.
And on top of home prices, CAL has the highest state taxes. And the highest property taxes.
|
Bettman and the players seemed to pushback a ton on the state tax piece.
But my comment was more towards being shot and all that stuff. These guys are living their best life the majority of them. Being shot is likely not at the top of their list.

I agree. Flip the script for Vegas and for Andersson by saying the only way Vegas gets him is as an overpay (2027 1st + 2028 1st + top prospect). Hurts Vegas next year not having Andersson which helps the flames pick (as much as possible). Makes it so Andersson can’t get 6 years and it walks him to free agency so Vegas has to pay open market prices. Offer him to other teams for a rental price. Say 2026 1st round pick (top 10 protected) + 2nd round pick + B-level prospect.

Is today the last day for an Ekblad extension? Or does he have until 11am ET tomorrow when the frenzy starts?
You have to think that the 8th year is a big deal for him too.

The joke will be on VGK when 350 lb thick Ras shows up to sign his 8 year extension.
This is his country club retirement contract. #### him.

Goes to Dallas and eliminates VGK.

This whole scenario screams tampering to me. I have no proof but I cannot think of any other reason why Andersson is so sure he’ll get an acceptable contract from Vegas.

Vegas is starting to remind me of the NYR after they won the cup with Messier. In in every free agents, old team that just keeps shuffling in high priced free agents and never gets back there.

This doesn’t suprise me at all. Flames wait until last year and NMc players hold the cards. Best asset on trade market will result in mediocre return as usual.

Of course they’re tampering, it’s what they do and have always done. It’s obvious. But good luck meeting the standard of proof to call them out on it.

Blue Jackets are not qualifying Jordan Harris. Pens not qualifying PO Joseph or Emil Bemstrom. Bruins not qualifying Jakub Lauko.
