Imagine paying for The Athletic and reading that.

Media literacy at an all time low it appears. Safe to say “the rest of the league” has some opinions that stray away from “the Oilers’ defence is flawless.”

And it’s also safe to say that, if we’re going to accept the fact that there was plenty of interest and two deals that at least got within the realm, Conroy and Andersson are valuing things just fine.

That same article has the Panthers as the 14th best group of defencemen. It states that they would squeak into the top ten of both Ekblad and Schmidt were both re-signed but it implies they would be nowhere near as great as the NHL best Edmonton Oilers backend.

I think the last reason why the Oil made it to the finals was their D. They have 97 and 29 and their goalies miraculously got hot at the right time. Their D was not their strength.
Bouchard is a franchise D? Not even close. He was responsible for countless GA.
Ekholm is old and it showed
Walman is a #4
Kulak is a #5
Nurse is the worst contract in the league.
Stetcher and Klingberg should be jobless next year.

The key with The Athletic is figuring out who the good writers are worth following, and that's what you pay for.

Who’s that “ writer “ so I can avoid wasting time in the future?

So it is a case of Andersson being determined to go to free agency? Will he sign an extension with anyone else?

Since Razz isn't signing extensions on potential trade destinations I hope the lines of communication are open between flames management and his agent on which teams he would sign an extension for. Otherwise the Flames are just going to have to switch gears and focus on rental prices and figure out how much is the premi they can charge forax retention. Let the acquiring team deal with his deadline status.

I say…Vegas moving Hague, assuming they aren’t getting a D back…seems natural they come back on Andersson, no?

Sure but what do they have to trade to flames?

Anything interesting from Nashville? Not sure what Hague would return though.

Edit: oh, he was UFA though wasn't he, so probably not much

Edit 2: NM, RFA... so maybe some pieces coming back?

Got Lauzon and Sissons. Neither piece attractive to us. A bit surprised that they would take money back. Unless they view sissons as Roy replacement and lauzon to take some of pietrangelo minutes. Maybe they were told by conroy they don’t have anything of interest and they aren’t coming back.

If I was Conroy, I'd make them pay out their nose for Andersson. 27 1st, Dorofeyev and something else.

Now I'm wondering if something like Rasmus for Hertl happens. Clears enough cap for Marner. Then the Flames flip a center for the futures.

Don't think so.

He had 32 goals and 61 points last year and only makes $6.75M

Not negative value for sure

Really hoping Vegas misses out on everyone they are after for once. Don’t think they have the assets to get an Andersson trade done. If they miss out on Marner because of the tampering issue and don’t get Andersson and lose Pietrangelo for the season, and don’t get any of the big name free agents… they could be primed for a step back this year. Which is great for the flames.

His cap hit is $8 mill until he’s 36. Goes against everything Conroy is trying to do right now.
