Your Office Pet Peeves!
I know many CPers visit from the office throughout the day... at least I do!
What are your biggest annoyances and pet peeves through the office?
One of my biggest has to be:
People eating stinky food at their cubicle.
I can smell it alllllll the way across the office, and it smells SICK. Eat a turkey sandwich or something, if you're going to have egg salad or McDicks or something... EAT OUT! EAT IN THE CAFETERIA! EAT IN YOUR CAR FOR ALL I CARE!!

People with poor hygiene that are "close talkers".
Anyone that talks loud on their phone with their office door open or on a cell phone in common office area's.
White noise generators.
Doing work.

I once worked with someone who cut his nails (toes included) in his cubicle. Every few days I would hear, "clip" "clip" "clip". It drove me up the wall and it was rather disgusting.

People who have atrocious handwriting. I don't have time to interpret the hyroglyphics on your memo. If you have awful handwriting, please type stuff out. Dictate the memo even. Please.

My office has desks without walls separating them. They are basically just a bunch of desks and tables pushed together. Some people talk in your work space, over top of you, to the person beside you. Really irritating. It's not hard to walk 5 or 10 feet to their desk.

I think elevators could have their own thread, but here's a few of mine:
- Elevator "surprise." These people get on at the 2nd floor, go to 4, and seem shocked when the doors open on 4. Especially bad in my building because the doors shut quickly.
- "Express Elevator" people. These folks get on the ground floor, press 21, the elevator stops on 2 to let more people on, and they push their way to the front. Or they get on, press 21, 6 others get on pressing lower floors, and each and every floor they push their way to the front.
- "I was here first!"- in my building there are 6 elevators. I'm the last one of 6 people getting to the elevator lobby, and who knows which one is coming first. The one I happen to be standing in front of dings, and some person pushes me out of the way to get onto the empty elevator first.
There's more, but I'm done work for the day.

people that whine about their workload. Especially when they whine so much about it they get even more behind.
When management don't have the balls to fire someone. And then they're surprised when their entire team is lacking motivation. You don't think people notice when someone else dicks around and nothing is done about it? People see it, get fed up, and then start doing nothing as well.

-People who look at my computer screen when they walk by my office. Nosy buggers!
-People who take way too many smoke breaks. Your disgusting habit shouldn't be an excuse for not doing any work. Seriously. If people can go out that often for smoke breaks, I should be able to take as many "do whatever the hell I feel like" breaks.
-When people put their dirty cups in the sink. There's a friggin dishwasher right beside the sink!

My office is next to our IT guys office. He usually is out fixing someone's problem.
People ask me "Do you know where James is?", like I have some sort of IT GPS.
I eventually put up a sign.
"I have no idea where James is."
People continue to ask. Now I just point at the sign.

I hate that when we asked for a bit more privacy and quiet, they brought in a white noise system in an attempt to "drown out" other sounds. But people didn't like the result, so the volume was turned down. Now we have all the annoyance of continuous white noise and none of the benefits.

I apologize in advance for the feminist rant that's about to ensue:
I'm the only woman that works in our office...all the rest are men. Sadly my male co-workers are under the misguided impression that because I'm the only female in the office, I must be the one who will do their administrative tasks or even personal errands for them.
"Will you book my flight?"...."Could you take this to accounting for me?"...."Would you mind faxing this for me?" I even had a co-worker ask me to pick up his suit from the dry-cleaners. I have nothing against secretaries, its just that, well, I'M NOT A SECRETARY. We NEED a secretary in our office, but my boss refuses to hire one.
In the meantime, whenever a co-worker comes to me with a clerical request, I just point to my degree hanging on the wall. They usually get the hint....

Oh my gosh, that sucks so bad. Poor you.
I can't stand it when I am on the phone and someone just comes and stands behind me waiting for me to finish. I'm not talking personal call her, it's business. Excuse me, I'm on the phone!
Can you not come back later.

This really sucks too, cubicles are at least an illusion of privacy. I could not stand that sitting out in a big room with everyone else.

My biggest pet peeves is having to listen to receptionists yak all lunch. The way these people talk you'd think they ran the show. I don't even eat in the lunch room anymore. Sometimes I feel like just losing it and telling them they could replaced in 5 minutes with one call to a temp agency.
