Powerplay Quarterback

Anyone else surprised fiddler didnt go in the first round? Thought for sure Murtagh would go in the first.
Almost seems like the hype around it being a center draft may have influenced a few teams.
However how many teams this year were looking for center help? Also may have some play in it. Would love to get another second.
Not that i condone it but if kadri did become available the price might be obscene.

I don’t know that you even need to move up to get Ryabkin

One player I'd like Flames to take in the 2nd round is Matthew Gard.....if we take him permission to call him Matthew Gard Band as a nickname

One of Sandman's Sleepers!
"C Matthew Gard: Much like Paupanekis, he's a 6'4" center, with a robust physical game, and specializes in shutting down the opposition's best players- but there are flashes of more. 36 points in 66 games with Red Deer (and 81 PIM), but he looked great at the U-18's, with 4 points in 7 games. Should be picked in the second."

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
Just hope we don’t have the draft house today
(I know that won’t be happening)
Conroy’s interview after the draft last night he brought up trying again to move up noting teams were interested / willing to do so yesterday.

I'd like the Flames to take some risks trying to land some high offense players.

Nah. Lots of good names still available. I’m just waiting to see who is at 54. With all the negativity around Ryabkin he could very well be at 54 for us. We need as many darts as possible in a draft like this.

Picks 54 and 80 gives you Pick 44 which is Red Wings 2nd round pick
Calgary Flames
COL 2025 - Round 2
Pick 54
Value: 4.36
CGY 2025 - Round 3
Pick 80
Value: 1.97
Total Draft Pick Value: 6.33
DET 2025 - Round 2
Pick 44
Value: 6.25
Will be interesting what is left on board around pick 44 to see if we can grab one more high ceiling or a R shot center?

Hopefully he and the scouts have some conviction on who the best player available is when their picks come up, and whether there is value in picking them at that spot. I don't care if it's a one legged goalie or some 7'6" Frenchman who just started skating 18 months ago. Always BPA.

No doubt that you love to see the flames jump up and see the kind of conviction about a prospect that shows. I agree that another big swing on a player like ryabhkin would be exciting. The flames are lacking in young offensive play driving forwards, especially down the middle and walking away with him on top of potter and reschny would give us 3 offensive prospects to watch develop all with legitimate chances of being top 6 forwards. Too bad they had to give up the good 2nd to get frost and farabee as those two really didn't impress me down the stretch, but they are youngish useful nhl pieces so I get it.
Will Moore is the other guy I know of in this next grouping who feels like he could really pop offensively next year. Though rw isn't exactly a position of need

Flames should just keep getting BPA for the rest of the draft. With no consensus it likely means, there will be someone there that falls.

while I have medium to strong opinions on what I think I'd want, frankly I have little data or other objective measures on any at this stage- there would the usual suspect names- either linked to Flames or just at the top of other lists- Gastrin, Spence, Ryabkin, Murtagh, McKinney, Nilson, Behm, Zharkowsky
but Prokhorov is a name that I keep coming back to as interesting- he's there at 52 in the UH list- but thoughts on him in general and as a Flames fit?
can't decide yet if I'm worried that there is a fall of shelf before we pick again- but if there is a goalie run and other teams going their own way we should still get a useful name at 54 and maybe in the 3rd also- the draft fell nicely into the Flames' hands last year
