Presumably they don't want to give anyone term when they're about to try to give Quinn Hughes a blank cheque.

Don't the Oilers need space for Bouchard's pay raise and need another what 4m to fit Draisaitls new deal? On top of everything else?? Last I read they're trying to move Arvidsson now too. But in reality they need to completely gut the roster and reset even to fit their core 3 players in. Without upgrading their roster....

So bad.

Is Patrick Alvin (or Rutherford) stupid? Serious question.

They just saw their entire team disappoint last year because of in-room drama. Now they go and trade for the NHL's biggest "drama king"? I thought Kane had negative value, and yet Vancouver gives up a 4th? To a divisional rival? To a top-2 rival??

I bet this won't end well. Kane on a team with questionable leadership based on what we saw last season. I would laugh so hard and say: "Let's get the popcorn out" if it wasn't for the fact that they just helped-out the Oilers greatly.

As a Flames fan, I thought Evander Kane had one of the best finals performances I've ever seen and we should be thankful for his contributions to the Panthers' Championship.

Per AllThreeZones tracking, of the 24 highest TOI forwards in the series, Kane's ranks were:

xG/60 - 18th
xA/60 - 24th
xP/60 - 24th
Penalty differential - 24th

I loved him on the Oilers just as I'll love him on the Canucks. Complete liability, on and off the ice.

Such a weird trade - sure it makes YVR worse (yay), but they were doing a really good job of that without any help.

The downside is they made it easy for the grease pigs to separate from Kane. I was really hoping the greasers would have to take some lumps to move him out.

At this cap hit? No

At this level of garbage person? Probably also no.

So bad.
Draisaitl's CAP goes up by $5.5M, moving Kane out doesn't even cover that, never mind all the other things being suggested here

That's annoying. Now they can sign Bouchard for 10M, dump Skinner, sign Hart for 1M, and still have a good chunk of space left to round out their depth.

Two deplorable organizations. Gross deal all around.

But nothing can save the Oilers. Even trading Kane.

I was spitballing but yeah, 5.5m ..

Moving Kane's contract off the books isn't even a drop in the bucket of what they need to do.

It doesnt even cover the Drai raise...especially when they replace Kane with a worse player

They have about 4-5 million left after Bouchard signs his extension and only 9 forwards signed. So league minimum salaries to fill out rest of their lineup. Their bad depth is going to be even worse next year.
