Clear cap dump when you think about it. Guess they think Marchment will take those minutes so moved out a redundant piece and cleared cap doing so. Chicago serious about being better this season.

That's a good move for Chicago. Burakovsky is the kind of winger that gives Bedard some real help.

Still possible Seattle buyouts Veleno as he is under 26 the buyout rate is 1/3 instead of 2/3

Chicago taking the gamble that Burakovsky can find his game again on Bedard's wing. Instead of committing 4 or more years to an UFA they only commit to 2 years with Bruakovsky

They also need to get to the floor and could build his value and flip him with salary retained for a good pick in 1 to 1.5 years from now.

Seattle did well though, Marchment fits a role in the bottom 6 for less money and Seattle is on the verge of having some young players fill/improve the top 6.

Burakovsky has been on a real slide since he left Colorado. 10 goals, 37 points in pretty much a full season. And aside from last season, really injury prone. He was a third liner by the end of the season.

I don't understand why Seattle would do this.

Burakovsky takes up 5.5 million of cap space and in his last 2 seasons, has 17 goals and 53 points in 128 games. Veleno can be a capable bottom 6 center or get bought out for even more cap savings, as Sureloss pointed out.

I wouldn't mind that - he's 25, and arguably better than Kirkland (as much as we love him)

Kirkland can also play wing! A no brainer!

I would target Cody Glass before Veleno.

They are very comparable.

I think Glass might be the better player offensively but Veleno is more durable.

If we were to sign Glass I would hope that he would have the chance to play on the 3rd line whereas I wouldn't mind having Veleno playing on the 4th line all the while having some time on the second power play.

Depends what you are looking for!

And with Kadri, Backlund and Frost, neither would be on the 3rd line
As a 4th line C, I think I would rather have Veleno than Glass, but both are upgrades on Kirkland

Glass had some of the best shot suppression numbers in the league last year in a bottom 6 role. I think he is the better of the two and would cost only slightly more cash to acquire.

Just to present a contrarian view, what’s the point of drafting and developing if Flames are going to be buying 4th liners? At some point, don’t the Flames need to start bringing Wranglers into the nhl?
